***Official*** South Africa In Australia

South Africa surely would be the happier side at the end of day 1, big responsibility on Clarke and Johnson tomorrow to drag Australia to some sort of competitive score, kind of getting really annoying now to see the top-order getting blown away and then expecting the lower-order bats to bail the team out of troubled waters.

73* but he is still way too reliant on luck when making scores against good quality bowling attacks.

Clarke was really good again. Yeah, he got dropped, but he also faced some pretty good bowling and his shot selection and strokeplay was excellent at times. He's still maturing as a player but he's going to be the backbone of the lineup in a few years.

Might be a little overcast again tomorrow so could still be pretty nice conditions for bowling. This will be a road with the sun out though, so Australia getting up towards 350 is crucial.

Was anyone else surprised that Brad Haddin batted below Andrew McDonald?

I'm not going to give up on McDonald completely yet, I have thought all along that his bowling will be more useful than his batting.

Condisering the overcast conditions Aussies would have done well having Hilfy in the side, he along with Bollinger could have used the overcast conditions well, but since that's not the case, its important that Siddle swings the ball, as using the new ball well would be very important on this pitch.

6/267 - South Africa should be happy with that. Although Amla would be feeling terrible dropping Clarke. South Africa is on top, although not by alot. If Johnson and Clarke can add another 30 odd between them, bring the score to 300, and then the tail adds another 50 runs for a nice 350, the game will be well in the balance. South Africa will obviously be looking to finish off the tail (they've had problems doing that) and keep it to around 300. So really the game could go either way.

Another quality day of Test cricket. Been such a good series, can't wait for the return leg.

And McDonald at 6

Johnson for a 50 tomorrow.
