Because of whats going on now. Clearly picking a batsman in Hodge/D Hussey would have been safer & more sensible.

Yea hind sight is quite nice isnt it. Yet if you look at the first 2 matches getting the SaF batsmen out is also seemingly beyond these bowlers so the selectors chose wisely for mine.

South Africa were pretty wasteful in the first hour I thought. They've turned it around now though.
It's obviously a really good wicket but it's overcast and there was a bit of swing around, and if South Africa had bowled good lines batting could have been really hard early on. Would have been a big let-off if things had stayed that way until lunch. Since drinks they've been much better though. Kallis especially has bowled well.
