Shame about the shocking umpiring, I guess one just has to take the rough with the smooth and not get too angry about it..

And can somebody tell me why Shaun Pollock and Andre Nel are being called Kaffirs? I know many segments of the Aussie crowd have the IQ of a salad, and a bad one at that, but have they undergone Michael Jackson like operations?
Apparently they were called "kaffir botias" in Perth link and maybe thats what was said at the SCG yesterday?

If that's the case probably expats, as i think that'd be beyond the local bogans.

Whatever it takes!!!
I am one of the few here who keep bringing up Kallis' lack of success against Australia and as such, I think it is only fair that I praise him for a very good and valiant knock. I still don't think he is in the same league as Lara or Sachin but he is definitely on the right road. And with this probably being the last time he will have to contend with Warne and McGrath in Australia, rosier times could be ahead.

I'm not really calling for hawkeye. Replays to show pitching in line or looking for inside edges make sense though. Well, they make sense if we're gonna use them for diving saves at the boundary anyway.
I'd prefer to see earpieces and the 3rd umpire taking no balls - absolutely no delay to check then, and the umpire is concentrating at 1 end rather than having to hurriedly look up to check where it pitches whilst refocusing.

I love logging on & reading a day's postings in tour threads when I can't watch the game live! Gives one a flavour of what to expect from the highlights. :)

A couple of things before I watch them:

a) Just how iffy does Botha's action look? I saw his wicket on the Sky Sports news round-up & it didn't strike me as egregious.

b) In light of Fred's success against Gilly did any one the Saffie seamers come around the wicket to him?

a) I think it's pretty shocking myself. Probably the blatant going around at the moment (leaving the Murali issue aside).

b) Yes. Nel and Pollock did so extensively. Gilly's innings was pretty scratchy up until 50 or so, but he came through it fairly well and was brilliant at the end. Deserved a century.

Highlights here in about half an hour. Interested to see Botha. Wonder if he'll have a trip over to Perth soon?

It wasn't out but it really wasn't THAT bad. It's just when you consider all the plumb ones he didn't give. Worst decision I've ever seen was definitely Simon Jones not being given LBW at Edgbaston to Lee. I wish Bowden and Dar were Australian. Then I wouldn't have to watch games they umpire in.
what about Hair's moronic decision against Inzi in the past ENG/PAK series

Anyone reading the last 100 or so posts in this thread (like I just have) would come to the conclusion that Cricket Web is just a forum for whiney Aussie supporters *****ing about umpires' decisions and getting their excuses ready just in case there's an another impending defeat on the horizon.

Come on, guys. It's not really been that bad, has it?

I have to say having now watched the highlights there were some pretty mediocre decisions. Nel's shout against Hussey that wasn't given was absolutely stone dead for me. Fair play to Nel for taking it so well; which couldn't be said of his skipper. Borderline dissent from Fat Gray there, if Chris Broad doesn't have a word he's quite a lucky boy.

Botha's action does look quite awful when one has a proper look. There appeared to be a fair degree of straightening going on. After the reporting of Malik & Shabbir I would say in the interest of fairness he has to be examined. It may be another optical illusion, but my lord it looks iffy.

Great innings from Punter, worthy of the occasion. Maybe a bit lucky to survive that LBW shout in his 90s, but his pulls throughout were masterful.

Intriguingly poised match now, do the Saffies try & score quick runs to chase the victory & risk losing the match or adopt safety first & bat Oz out of it? The rate they scored at in the first innings doesn't inspire confidence in them taking the former course of action; if they're still only one or two down at lunch maybe they'll accelerate into the arvo session.

Doesnt make sense to go for a draw and highly unlikely RSA will go down that road.

RSA will look to bat a session and a half according to me.

75 overs - run rate of 3 and half would give them 262 today. They lead by 96 already. I say aim to make 350 and declare after that. Even a 325-350 score wouldnt be too bad though.. Should have enough overs to get Australia out - the more vital aspect.

No need to attack from the first session - run rate of 2.5 in the first hour or so not doing any thing stupid, go for 3 runs an over after that stepping the tempo to 3.5 furing the last period before team. Step the tempo after tea in the last fling and get 350..

If Australia manage to survive 3 and half sessions in Sydney batting last, well played.

But with 1 wicket down there is the danger of South Africa collapsing. I hope it doesnt happen but it is very much possible.
