had a strong feeling a bit after the 4th wicket fell yesterday that this game would end in a draw.

Should've gone with Cutting instead of Hastings then if they wanted a bowler who can bat. Averages more with the bat than ball too btw. ;)

Spikey, why do all your options consist of Siddle being dead? If anyone is going to recover well, its him.

I really don't want Johnson to play, not fussed if either Hastings or Hazlewood played.

The more I think about it the more I think Hastings' batting just hasn't come into it. He's clearly the 3rd back up seamer of the 3 back ups. He's there in case Hilf and Siddle don't come up. That leaves them with 4 bowlers in the squad. You obviously need 4 bowlers in a squad. Given it's Perth you don't want to be sending a SOS to a guy on the eastern seaboard at the 11th hour. They're just being prepared.

so yeah i think they think hastings > bird, ncn etc straight up as a bowler

Well even before his last hour struggle, he looked pretty sore to me. He just seems more likely to be rotated/rested etc than Hilf.

I did mean to include a Hilf dead option though

how come, and this really ***** me, that when everyone mentions how Johnson *destroyed* SA last time in Perth, they chased 418 and won easily......he was toothless in that 4th innings, toothless in SA last year, where is this form vs SA the media keep talking about?

From memory he looked our most likely bowler all through the 4th? He ended up taking enough for 10 from the match so he took at least a couple of wickets. I know from memory he was basically our only hope. He had no support. Lee was playing hurt and wasn't at his best, Krejza was Krejza (always. zuck it pewz) and Siddle was toothless

Yeah I think the rest of the attack had more to answer for in that innings than Johnson. On a pitch that offered zero, tbf.

was thinking about options with siddle and or hilf dead. one major point is I don't think either watson or clarke will be right to bowl in perth

was actually really hoping for siddle and hilf dead and a starc/johnson/dougeh/lyon attack
