Bit of a re-run of SL's Q-F victory over England. The visitors batting first and tentatively going about their business against the spinners, establishing a decent-ish platform but lacking the hitting power towards the end to make it into a winning total.

The target set begins to look smaller and smaller as SL look to cruise their way to the next round with minimal effort and minimal damage to the wickets column.

Yeah otherwise NZ were locked in to win this one.
And it's always good to see a cricket match won by the side who picks 1 guy that can bowl above half rat power ( and he went for about 7 an over) because of a home town pitch

SL are probably the best all round side left in the WC but the competition will be regarded as a farce when the semi finalists get hammered day in, day out for years to come because they hardly have a decent bowler above medium pace amongst them

Wouldn't suggest NZ have been in great positions tbh. They've always been recovering and got themselves into ok positions to push on, but wouldn't say they've ever been in a great position today.

Styris was clearly aiming to bat right to the end and was banking on seeing off Murali before attacking in the last two. With wickets falling around him it was getting more and more difficult for him to take the risks.

Yes you're right SL are very handy at home in these conditions.
Mate, it's defies belief that anyone can bank on seeing off a bowler when he is delivering the 47th over!

You can when he's facing his last ball. Think they just wanted to push Murali around in his last over, for a run a ball if possible, they wanted to make sure they used the entire 50 overs and get to around 240. They couldn't manage it, even so their downfall was not caused because of the 47th over. Also, Styris is one of the few that should be absent from much of the blame.

Two quick ones for NZ, such a shame from their perspective that they didn't come much sooner. Still they're in there and fighting against a middle order short of form and match practice.

Too little, too late now. It's been an even more thoroughly professional performance by Sri Lanka; this time around, they didn't even drop a few sitters in the field.

SL are not merely the best all round side left in the WC, along with SA they are the best all round side that started the tournament. Heavy favourites to win the final in Mumbai, in my book. And, God, woudn't they deserve it too! The only way to stop them seems to be by grabbing a clutch of early top order wickets.

Don't think the Kiwis can win from here, but another couple of wickets would do no harm at all to their pride.
