*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

I wonder if the Lyon/Cummins partnership in the 1st test has been a factor in us picking Tongue.

When the lower order get in, there's 2 things they still struggle with - leg spin and pace.

In the last test we had neither. If we'd had a fit Wood or Archer, it would have been much tougher for Lyon and Cummins.

Tongue does bring a bit of extra pace.

Having to cram the Ashes into a six-week period so The Hundred can have August to itself is frankly diabolical!! It’s unforgivable! No one cares about The Hundred when compared to the showcase series that’s the Ashes. The ECB should be ashamed of themselves for the scheduling of this.

imo australia have been spooked by boland going for 50 runs off a 5 over spell or whatever and so have gone for 'control', but also: they got spooked.

It was obviously a tough test match for Boland. It's never a good sign for a seamer when the keeper has to stand up to the stumps.

That being said, if this strip does more than Edgbaston, you'd have thought he'd be a much more difficult prospect to face.

yes but botham is a tory and chappell is a total gun when it comes to supporting refugees
Didn't know that about Chappell - good on him. Botham is a right little Englander.

He's a Tory, massive Royalist & ante immigration Brexiteer.

This would be one time when I'd happily see an Aussie beat the Englishman.

I probably would have stuck with Boland on this pitch, but I wouldn't rule out Starc being an antidote to Bazball either. They will be cognisant of the threat of yorkers on the stumps and bouncers, and that might just scramble the English batsmen, in the same way Starc is such a threat in LO.

Starc hardly ever bowls yorkers in tests these days.
