I kind off like Bell's approach. He occasionally gets into a mode where he can do nothing but block, which I have no issue with in situations where runs aren't relevant, but it's not really what we want here.

Yep its happening. Really underrated aspect of our team having our fifth bowler to be able to bowl so tight. I do wonder why batsman don't try and take it to him a little by batting out of the crease. Watson's line is great, but he's very comfortable with the approach of the batters.
