*Official* Second Test at the Adelaide Oval

What's this Doherty fella been bowling so much for? North is clearly the frontline spinner in this side.
If I was Ponting I'd tell him he's pulled a hamstring and has to get treatment off the field for the rest of the day. Considering he's had two drops, missed a runout and let a couple of boundaries go through him I don't think they'd miss him much.

Let's not use the pitch as an excuse as it demeans England's performance

Oz won the toss and had the opportunity to pile on the pressure but Eng have simply been too good so far
A flat pitch is irrelevant if your bowlers are serving up a diet of wide long hops and leg stump half volleys.

How was their preparation compromised ?

While England had arrived in the country and was playing tour matches, Australia was forced to play test matches (CA changed the schedule) in India in hot conditions on unforgiving pitches. Bollinger picked up an injury (and he was bowling well at the time) and Hussey was forced to play IPL (at CA's behest) which left him light on practice for the India series.

Then when the players returned they played some hit and giggle T20s and a series of meaningless one day matches against Sri Lanka while the English players were playing the longer form of the game.

Yet when Australia tours, the players have very little practice before the test matches begin.

I don't see why Ponting is getting the criticism. I'd look to the farcical selection policy, and I also wonder about whether the coach is up to it.
Don't think much of this has to do with our recent bowling changes though. Could easily see Johnson getting owned ever more on a pitch like this given his recent form. I still think in the long run our bowling attack of Harris, Siddle and Bollinger would be quite successful (more so than Johnson, Siddle and Hilf anyway). Obviously the choice to put North in the team has been a monumental failure. Doherty has been pretty average as well, but once again I could easily see the alternative (Hauritz) failing like this as well. The bottom line is if you bat first and don't get runs on a pitch like this, you are just asking to lose. I don't think much criticism for Ponting's captaincy is warranted, if anything, his batting should be criticised.

Good grief this Bollinger cat is awful. Always said he was overrated and was slaughtered by Aussies for saying so, looks like i was right though on what i've seen this game.

Been another brilliant session for England. Another couple of good ones today and the game will almost be in the bag.

I see your point, playing 5 day cricket in hot conditions on a flat pitch hardly prepares you for 5 day cricket in hot conditions on a flat pitch.

Now lets just not play our fast bowlers ever again in the lead up to an Ashes series in case they get an injury.

No one forces players to play in the IPL either.

They also had state games in the lead up, which they haven't had for years

Well done KP, keep it going mate.
It's been awsome to watch KP in full flow, some really breath taking shots from him.

I don't think that's particularly fair, Bollinger is an excellent bowler who has been performing well for Australia in various conditions over the last 12 months, he's having a bad test on the comeback from injury
