Honest question. It Aus could pick New Zealand's top six bar Clarke would they? Sure they crumbled but it was overcast and swinging.
Nah. Taylor, McCullum and maybe Williamson would get a place in the current Aus team, but the Aussie openers are definitely better than ours, and I think that counts for a lot.

Taylor, Mccullum and Williamson are 3 out of 5...

It's got past anger for me, just a general feeling of disgust right now. Just awful.
I am just resigned to it every time we bat tbh

One of the worst stats compiled by this team is that in his first 17 tests as captain, Clarke walked to the wicket once with the score at 70 or more.

That is absolutely horrendous when you consider that he bats at no. 5

Anyway, the thing that I really find inexcusable is that guys like Pattinson and Siddle have much better defensive techniques than many of the batsmen

If they can show real improvement in their batting then why cant the specialists?

I really want to blame the lack of defense and application on T20 but I'm not sure I can. In my mind I have just resigned myself that its the 80's again and we pick some young bats and hope a couple of them come good.

I mean today we didn't even have the decency to get out to good balls for the first four wickets

Well Williamson's inclusion is highly questionable. He's fairly interchangeable, runswise, with the likes of Khawja, Hughes etc. Taylor and McCullum are the only two obvious choices. McCullum only averages 35, so it's not like he's giving you a lot more runs than Smith or Watson. That leaves Taylor, who is definitely a lot better than any Aus batsman bar Clark. Don't think he's enough to sway it, given how weak the NZ top 3 is.
