*Official* Second Test at Lord's - Aug 12-16 2021

International Captain
This over's pretty much summing up what Curran brings to the side He could have had Sharma twice, but the over's gone for 16.

And inserting India is looking a worse decision with every passing moment.
Our openers regularly put on decent stands these days. Doesn't matter with the next three playing like they are.

There are times when he seems to get his decisions very wrong. And, so far, this is one of them.

Ah, this was the first official thread made and it’s not getting much love.

Is it because I’m not from either of the two countries playing each other?

Anyways, back to more rain in England…

England doing a good job of proving my 'never bowl first unless absolutely necessary' rule before the weather turned all English.

All swing is definitely not shape. Shape is generally used to describe a delivery that angles in and swings away to approximately.
'Shape' makes me think of deliveries that have an actual shape to their trajectory. So swing that starts early and carries on past the batter, something that looks good on the hawkeye replay later.

Who decides the tactics and the bowling order.I am not a fan of silver wood who now picks the team and is getting it wrong most of the time.Love Sam Curran as a wholehearted cricketer but he is not a test bowler as first change. He is a medium pacer at best should only be playing as an all rounder at best.We really do need changes at the top .Strauss for Giles to start with.why oh why has wood not bowled yet .Root great batsman so poor as a captain tactically clueless

Sorry SCC, missed it since it was in CC and not in the Ind-Eng subforum. It's been shifted now and hopefully will be merged soon and the OP here should be the OP in the merged one

Leach should absolutely be in this XI. Moeen selection I don't personally mind and I'd have liked to seen England go with 3+2 (Anderson, Robinson and Wood plus the 2 spinners). And I don't think Leach would offer much worse with the bat with Curran tbh (possibly better in these circumstances). The man is really gritty and can both absorb pressure and bat time

The ball's moving all over the place, what's wrong with persisting with the blokes who are making it move?

Not much pace in the wicket from what I can see anyway

You'd have though Curran would be the 4th/5th bowler with Ali. Wood is taking 3 wickets per game in tests, Curran 2. I like Curran because he tries hard in all 3 aspects (also provides the variety of left arm bowling, left hand bat, left arm throwing arm), which I believe rubs off well on the team. But Wood should be on before Curran without discussion if he plays. I'd be saying exactly the same about Overton if he was picked over Wood. Actually their home wpm is similar, but Wood has potential to improve his home record - considering how good he's been away.

It is a discussion about whether England could have gone with 2 spinners. Personally I would have gone 4 seamers plus Ali like England, so the balance of the attack I'm ok with. India aren't afraid to pack their side with spin, yet have gone with 4 seamers plus one spinner too - so it's very hard to argue against England going with 1 spinner in my opinion. I feel like considering Ali's domestic form, he had to be picked over Leach. Leach is a very good bowler though, I can understand if you wanted him. Picking Leach over Ali is a bit too kamikaze for me though without Stokes and Woakes.

They've been off for an hour....what's the point of taking the full time for lunch in addition to the rain break??? Cricket is so annoying.

Been playing around with the stats and however you cut them they seem to strongly support this view. In the past ten years at home England are 5 wins 5 losses when choosing to bowl, 18 wins 6 losses when choosing to bat.
