Ball By Ball
Mid table Cricketweb Green took on top of the table Black in a vitally important clash in today's one day fixture. Green's batsmen have been in supreme form of late and it would take another top notch effort for them to get over the top of their forbidable opponents. Black made one change from their previous match with Cameron Burge coming in for Cricketweb 'A' spinner David Richards.
Martyn Corrin won the toss and Green batted first, Andrew Garven was first to go for 11 as he edged one into the waiting hands of Black skipper Dan Smith at first slip, Garven's opening partner Nick Scott was next to go as he was trapped in front by Black seamer Nath Patrick for 24. There was to be little joy for the rest of innings for Black as a familiar sight of Ben Read and Martyn Corrin punishing bad bowling was on display, Read was most impressive and for the fourth time in five digs this season he passed fifty, he would later go on to make his second ton of the campaign as his Bradmanesque season continues, Read's 130 not out came off 148 balls and included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Not to be outdone Martyn Corrin chipped in with a lazy hundred of his own, his 114 ball stay netted him 122 not out as Green piled on 325/2 from their 50 overs. Rob Cribb again was not required and he may as well leave the pad's at home next match. Nath Patrick took 1/52 in what could be best descibed as an uninspiring bowling effort from Black.
The ever reliable James Stedman and Ash Chaulk came out to open the innings as per usual, Chaulk looked in good form before guiding a ball in the waiting hands of Jack McNamare at deep third man off Josh Forner, Stedman continued his build up towards the international one day season with a quickfire 46 before being bowled by Martyn Corrin. Inspiration captain Dan Smith came in at number three today and played his finest ever one day innings, with the match on the line Smith's elegance and occasional brute strength came to the fore and his 100 came up in 83 balls before being dismissed next rock. There were contributions of 49 from Andrew Cloete and Josh Ritchie while a late cameo from Blake Donald was enough to get the visitors home with plenty of time to spare, Black amassing 329/5 with more than three overs remaining. Josh Forner took 4/66 in what was his best performance of the season.

It was a battle of the cellar dwellers at the CW Oval as a young Blue's outfit was taking on an underacheiving Red's team. Blue who have only won one game in their opening six are in desperate need of a change of fortune to have any chance of qualifying for the end of season final while Red were hoping to put a gap between themselves and the bottom placed visitors.
Cricketweb Red batted first and it was an unusually slow start for them and inparticular by the generally fast scoring Matt Luff, the young opener looked out of sorts on his way to a painstaking 16 and he was eventually put out of his misery by a rejuvinated G Sriram. Wicketkeeper Liam Goff was hoping to make the most of his promotion up to number three to replace the sick Rob Dauth and he looked in fine touch during his knock of 27, Mitch Rapp could only make 14 while opener Swaranjeet Singh was going along at a run a ball. Singh while being a regular of this outfit has been unable to secure his place in the team on a long term basis but if he continues to show form like he did today then he has a bright future. His 79 runs came off only 80 balls and some of his team mates could have picked up a thing or two from him. Some pretty mediocre batting, slow scoring and excellent bowling meant a lower than expected score was achieved, Red finished their 50 overs at 228/7, skipper David Kennett knew they'd have to bowl well to defend it. Michael Cannon was the pick of the bowlers for Blue with 3/44.
Blue set out in reply with thoughts of a bonus point, knowing they'd need to knock off the runs in 40 overs to achieve it there was no holding back from the start, Cricketweb 'A' skipper Sean Fuller was looking to play more of an anchor role but he came unstuck on 34 when he was beaten by the turn of Sean Bennett, fellow opener Liam Camps was excellent as he backed up a fine bowling effort with a top half century to set up the match for his side. Young Angelo Loganathan and Cricketweb XI hopefull Rob Bowen still had a big job to do if Blue were to secure that vital bonus point, both like to play aggressive shots so it was no surprise to see both hammer their way to unbeaten half centuries at quicker than a run a ball as Blue knocked off the runs for the loss of two wickets in 34 overs. David Kennett bowled an economical first spell but there was little else to get excited about for Red today. Blue making 229/2 to win by plenty.
Cricketweb Red 228/7 (50)
S Singh 79(80), MA Cannon 3/44, LA Camps 2/34
Cricketweb Blue 229/2 (34)
AM Loganathan 68*(50), RF Bowen 54*(48), LA Camps 52(64), SA Bennett 1/54
Cricketweb Blue won by 8 wickets with 84 balls to spare
