. Will send them out a bit later. Also for further reference matches will be generally simmed on the morning of the designated match day Australian time. So you are better off submitting before 9am my time to get your team, tactics etc... you want.

The long awaited Development League Season XV finally got underway today when heavyweights and competition favourites Cricketweb Black travelled to the CW Oval to take on a rejuvinated Red side with three new faces looking to perform. New Red's skipper David Kennett won the toss and it was no surprise when he chose to bat first in pretty favourable conditions, Black's captain Dan Smith wasn't giving much away at the toss when asked what he would have done had he won the toss, he simply replied "We'll still beat them *****."
It was a steady start for Red as they got through to lunch at 3/118, Rob Dauth continued his excellent pre season form as he raced to fifty while it was all about a lack of form for test opener Hakon Mork as he missed the boat again, he was LBW to fellow test star Nick Borcich. Red continued to battle hard throughout the innings as partnerships were the key, the biggest being a 116 run stand between Heads and new recruit Dinnen. Heads impressed with his hard fought 56 while it was outspoken Dinnen who took most of the plaudits for his swashbuckling 68. Despite a solid showing of 347 Red will be disappointed they failed to bat out the day's play.
Black had 10 nervous overs to negate before stumps on day 1, this proved an obstacle too far for Josh Ritchie as he was cleaned up by veteran seamer David Kennett for just 6. Ritchie who recently starred in the Twenty20 Indian Champions League arrived back just hours before the match and looked unsettled during his brief stay at the crease. Test vice captain Dan Smith was another who had just arrived back following the T20 victory of ERUB and he failed to capitalise on a good start when he was trapped in front by that man Kennett again for 30. Decent contributions from a number of players in the lower order including 66 to Speirs and 57 to Black debutaunt Sam Morris saw the visitors claw their way to within 32 runs of Red's first innings total, Captain Kennett added yet another five wicket haul to his career total meaning he now has 64 at first class level.
Red openers Mork and Singh strode to the crease to begin the second innings full of confidence knowing a solid foundation would give them a real chance of an upset win to start their campaign. However 33 overs later and with the score at 5/71 the home side had seemingly blown their chance, devastating spells by Patrick and Donald had left it all up to Heads and Dinnen again and they were up to the task. Both completed their second half centuries of the game but it was Heads who finished on 92 that can be most aggrieved following a howler from the umpire that saw him given out caught down leg side when replays showed he missed the ball by a foot. His 210 ball stay highlighted the hard work required to fell in on this deck and by the time Red's were dismissed for 233 they had left Black a tough but getable chase of 266.
Dan Smith wasted no time in setting after the total, he quickly smashed his rival captain David Kennett out of the attack and did a similar job on West and Watt when it became evident of the lack of bowling options at Kennett's disposal. Despite taking 4 wickets before Black calmly took the points everyone from Bennett, to Heads and Dinnen were tried to gaining the upperhand but it was a hopeless task for the Red's skipper who simply didn't have enough runs to play with. The scoreboard at the end of the day says a 6 wicket win to Black, but those who witnessed the first two and a half days of this match know there was a lot more to this story than that.

It was a new era of Dev League cricket for both these sides as plenty of new faces and some old familiar ones taking to the field. For the Colts exciting all rounder Marcus Deane was making his first class debut while there were no fewer than three debutaunts for the visitors while Thamba Mamesh was also making a return. Colts new skipper Greg Thomas won the toss and chose to bat despite a small ammount of rain in the area, this small ammount of rain later turned into several downpours.
Rai and Fitzsimmons were re-united at the top of the order following good success in season 14 but there was to be no large stand today, Rai who has looked a little rusty in the pre season was the first victim of an in form Travis Demeza, the test discard will be desperate to get his spot back this summer and he has started the season in fine form. He and Shah ripped through the Colts line up and they trucked hard to give their batsman something to chase down, unfortunately for them the likes of Fuller, Camps, Crowther and Cannon couldn't come to the party as the four of them went wicketless during the first innings. For Colts after Bosco Fitzsimmons departed for a hard fought 68 it was up to test star Will Kerr to stamp his autoritity on the fixture and he did just that in making 126. It was eventually a run out that lead to his downfall and most watching would agree that was about the only way he was going to be dismissed. An entertaining run a ball 55 from Mike Wilson got Colts into a strong position of all out 372, Demeza 5 wickets and Shah 4 were the stars for Blue.
Despite still being a good wicket to bat on the Blue's top order failed miserably as experience duo Greg Thomas and Kyle Wright had a day out courtesy of the Blue batsmen. The pair took the first seven wickets before the crowd had time to take their seats after the interval and it was then left to Wilson to continue his fantastic all round game to grab the last three. Alex Crampton with 28 briefly entertained the crowd but skipper Travis Demeza no doubt had nothing nice to say to his batsmen in the break after they were asked to follow on. Kyle Wright with 4/35 from 10 overs looked to have a new lease of life without the added pressure of captaincy while Greg Thomas seemingly thrived with the added responsiblity in taking 3/41, no doubt though his ever rising economy rate will become more of a worry. Blue all out for 96.
Blue began their second with a tough ask of even making Colts bat again however Mamesh and Young showed glimpses of form as they combined for a 58 run opening stand, it was Wright who eventually broke the partnership when he got through the defences of the former test opener, Mamesh gone for 25. Quick wickets followed and with the score at 3/80 Blue were staring down the barrel at a mammoth loss, it was then experienced duo of Sean Fuller and Liam Camps got together for a 121 run stand which frustrated the home side and the young Blue's outfit started thinking about saving the game. Mike Wilson had other idea's though, the talented all rounder snared both in quick sucession as well as a further two to give himself a five wicket innings and the outright result they were chasing. Crowther though hit his way to an unbeaten half century on debut at number 10 while skipper Demeza was dropped no less than six times on his way to a 43 ball 6. Blue had done enough to make Colts bat again but not enough to be in the game, all out 316.
Needing 41 to win the match the seemingly easy task was made a little bit more difficult as Rai and Towns fell to good deliveries from Demeza and Fuller. It was left up to Fitzsimmons and Butler to finish the job which they did comfortably.

Injury Update
The news doesn't get any better for Cricketweb Red fans after it was revealed wicketkeeper Hakon Mork has pulled up with a sore back after the clash with Black. However it's not all bad as Red have the bye in the upcoming One Day round so it's likely Mork will miss just the one first class match and be available for selection for the team's One Day clash with Colts on Monday February 1st.

Despite the loss though a reasonably solid start to the season. Disappointing that none of the batsmen could really convert on their starts though. Really needed someone to step up and help Kennett with the ball as well.
