Cricketweb Colts hosted Red in the fourth round of the first class competition today, after starting with two good results Colts were refreshed coming off the bye in round three and were hoping their impressive form continued, on the other side of the coin it has been a season os inconsistency so far for Red, the batting has faulted at crucial times while the bowling has been steady if not unspectacular.
David Kennett won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first, conditions were perfect for batting and Red were hoping their top order could put their early season woes behind them to post a good total, out of sorts star batsman Hakon Mork was the first to go as he battled hard for over an hour for 15 runs, international number three Rob Dauth also continued his form slump as he came and went for 2 and David Kearsley who has actually been in reasonable form became Mike Wilson's second wicket of his first over as he was out first ball. At 77/3 it looked same old for Red but Matt Luff playing his second first class match of the season stayed solid through the carnage at the other end, he was joined at the crease by youngster Mitch Rapp and the pair built the innings together before Rapp was decieved by a Tarick Weber Wrong-un when he was on 70, not long after that it was Luff back in the action when he hit Thad Bochat through backward point for four to reach his second first class century, in what could be a coming of age innings for the inconsistent opener he finished with 14 boundaries and a six in his 119 before he became Mike Wilson's third wicket of the innings. John Heads continued his good form in making a pleasant 60 while Ed Ames scored the majority of the runs in a tenth wicket partnership of 47 with captain David Kennett, Red all out for 386 with Mike Wilson taking 4/73 and the returning Thad Bochat 3/88.
Colts reply was full of aggression and timing, everyone in the top order got among the runs except for Bosco Fitzsimmons. Daniel Towns made a good 44 after being promoted to open the innings however most impressive was new number three Marcuss Deane who may now not want to relinquish his spot after racing to his maiden first class century, his 109 came in good time and he looked right at home taking on the new ball. Chris Butler made 88 in what was his best innings of the season while Mike Wilson proved he could do no wrong in smashing a better than a run a ball 104, for Callum Laing though it was heartbreak as the Colts tail crumbled around him it was left to Greg Thomas to help his young batsman to his first ton, but Thomas in attempting to give Laing the strike set off for a suicidal single and Callum Dinnen made no mistake with the run out chance and Laing was left stranded 99 not out when Colts were finally all out for 584. Again there were no real stand outs with the ball, all tried hard and it was David Kennett who took the most wickets, but his three victims came at a hefty cost.
Winning the match looked a fair way out of reach for Red but they weren't content with playing for the draw, Matt Luff looked to continue where he left on in the first innings but could only make 20 while Rob Dauth finally looked like building a good innings but 26 was all his managed, through the shots and wickets at the other end it was Hakon Mork's turn to dig in and play his best knock of the season; his 159-ball 44 was well short of what was required today. There was little else to get excited about for Red as they started to shut up shop but regular wickets kept Colts well on top in this contest, after David Kearsley went for 32 it was John Heads for 22 and then Callum Dinnen for 19 and then the tail offered little resistance except for David Watt who smashed 27 quickly. Thad Bochat completed an enjoyable return to the first team by taking 4/83 in Red's total of 244.
Needing 47 to win Colts came out swinging trying to get it over and done with, they lost the disappointing Bosco Fitzsimmons for 10 and then first innings centurion Marcuss Deane for 2 but Daniel Towns and Chris Butler saw Colts home by 8 wickets.

Cricketweb Green and Blue met in what was a highly anticipated clash in round four, Green were hoping to end one of their best weeks in the clubs existance with another win while Blue where just hoping to find some consistancy in their performances. Green were unchanged for the clash while Blue made a number of minor changes with including opening batsman Stephen Young being dropped for all-rounder Richard Langley Jnr.
Green won the toss and got first use of a good wicket, they certainly didn't muck around early as the top order put the Blue's bowlers under a heap of pressure. Travis Demeza wasn't his usual threatening self and with Manan Shah still looking a bit short of a gallop easy runs were there for the taking. But first to go was Nick Scott who had largely left anything he didn't want to score off, the introduction of spin brought to his downfall when Langley got him caught as short cover by Rob Bowen. Andrew Garven looked in good touch but fell just short of the lunch break for 16 when he was a decieved by a clever change of pace by Sean Fuller. That brought in form Robert Cribb to the crease to join young gun Henry Pearce, both guys were playing just their third games for the club and looked every bit at home at the CWBCC Stadium. Pearce was unlucky not to make his first century when he was out to a good ball from Demeza for 85, Dylan Cole came in and also looked in good form but 39 was all he managed before a minor collapse gave Blue some hope. Martyn Corrin joined Cribb at the crease and the pair batting resolutely to put on a 209 run stand before Cribb was out for a brilliant 162. Corrin finished 128 not out as Green were finally dismissed for 530. Richard Langley's 4/84 from 39 overs was easily the best return for any of the bowlers but the part timer certainly had a lot more overs than was anticiapted on debut.
Blue needed to put together their best performance of the season if they wanted to stay alive in this match, Thamba Mamesh who has struggled to re-adjust to the rigors of first class cricket after some time away from the game looked to be turning a corner as he raced to 42 before getting out, Langley jnr was denied a debut century but 19 runs as he became Martyn Corrin's second victim for 81 and Jake Luffman looked to enjoy his promotion to the top order in scoring 66. Sean Fuller was another to pass fifty but again his 74 was short of what the side needed from a player of his calibre and with the side in trouble the out of sorts Rob Bowen did what any fearless young player should and smash a 53 ball hundred. It was the sort of innings not seen in dev league cricket for a long time, Bowen showed no mercy for any of the bowlers as he finally delievered a result for his captain who has continued to show faith in him. Despite from moderate contributions from the lower order Blue were still all out for 470 and Green still had the running in the game. Martyn Corrin was the pick of the bowlers following up his ton with the bat to take 6/100 with the ball.
In what was a wierd sort of innings by Green they looked stuck at times between choosing to be happy to bat for a draw or push on and give Blue something to chase in the fourth innings, Nick Scott held the innings together as the opener scored his first ton of the season in this form of the game while Henry Pearce nudged and noodled his way to 41, a declaration did come at 247/3 and with less than 50 overs to play and over 300 needed it seemed both teams would settle for a draw. Scott's 132 was the obvious highlight of the innings while Langley Jnr was again impressive with the ball in grabbing 1/19 from 12 overs.
With their season slipping away it was all or nothing for Blue from the outset, unfortunately for most of the top order it was nothing. Positions 2-5 scored 15 runs between them as the call came from skipper Travis Demeza to give up the chase, but with Rob Bowen at the crease that didn't seem likely, his 56 off 40 balls was important but nowhere near as important as the ride he took Thamba Mamesh on, the opener combined with Angelo Loganathan to get Blue to within sight of a remarkable victory and despite Loganathan falling for 35 Alex Crampton came in and finished the job with just over one over to spare. Mamesh was the hero though as he played what will probably go down as his finest first class knock of 177 not out from 162 balls as Blue got up by 4 wickets. There was little success for any of the green bowlers other than Xavier Rose who took 3/43.
