Just got in (early) from a night out, but can't be bothered to do the CW Blue/CW Green updates. So that'll wait till later today. Or maybe I'll have a change of heart if I stay up for a bit longer.

Can't see Liam getting so worked up about this without Blue ending up winning, personally. Hope I'm wrong, though.

The Wheel is Forever
4-36 in the first innings. Was hoping for a fiver. But pretty good figured nonetheless. Don't like it one bit that I fell off a little bit in the second innings.

Season XIII Match of the Day Coverage
The Road to the Manuel Ramprakash Challenge Trophy

Day Four
At the CW Oval
All but three members of the Colts squad were present at the CW Oval urging Cricket Web Red to press on to victory. A full house was on hand, and the atmosphere was electric with another thrilling day of cricket anticipated. Cricket Web Blue returned to the middle needing a further 234 to achieve one of the highest fourth innings totals in Dev League history and reach the final.

For the Reds encouragement came from the recent fragility of the Blue middle order. But in their way stood Thamba Mamesh, resuming on 81 and already the beneficiary of several chances. True to form he tried to cut Dave Watt and snicked an edge through to Mork, who somehow managed to drop another catch. The CW XI wicketkeeper and CW Red captain was devastated and held his hand up in apology to the bowler. And what hint of spirit there was to that point suffered greatly with the milestones of Stephen Young and Mamesh coming soon after, within a couple balls of each other.

Young calmly flicked David Kennett for a single to reach 50 from 87 balls, then Mamesh pushed the next ball firmly down the ground and collected a boundary and a crucial hundred. The partnership passed 150 and CW Blue looked to be building to an authoritative position. It was a bold move when Mork tossed the ball to Raghav, his least experienced bowler, but the fast man responded at the start of the final hour before lunch. From nowhere he nipped the ball back at Young and beat a weak prod to shatter offstump. Young walked off to polite applause and he was replaced by hs captain Robert Cribb, standing in for Travis Demeza. The television cameras then focused on the injured Demeza, sitting with his team in the pavilion and urging them on.

Cribb had scored only 11 runs in his last 3 innings as captain, but joined a confident Mamesh, on 125, and an encouraging situation with 156 runs required for a famous win. Such a positive setup has so often been the prologue to a tragic collapse, but the experienced pair made certain that it was not the case at the intervention of lunch. The crowd settled in for another key passage of play and the game resumed after lunch with a sputtering of applause. Cribb pulled Watt just out of the reach of midwicket and the ball raced away to the boundary to signal a 50-run partnership. Again Mamesh wasted no time in initiating his personal celebration. He played another good straight drive and crossed for a third run, then raised his bat calmly for 150. On his face was an expression of determination, but also a realization of his fortune to still be at the crease.

Then it was the turn of Cribb to torture the fielders. First he misjudged a delivery from Kennett and padded up as it straightened. For all the world he looked out, but the umpire disagreed and allowed him to continue. Cribb looked shaken and wafted at Kennett in the next over, only to see Mork drop his third catch of the innings. Thus, when Cribb edged a ball from Raghav a few runs later, it was with great delight and relief that Mork clung on. He smothered the ball with his gloves and slowly dropped to his knees, ensuring he had it totally under control before tossing it up to celebrate. His opposite number walked for 41 and CW Blue were 75 short of victory.

There was still a sense that the result hinged on the performance of Mamesh. And when Sharma failed to hold a catch at point it was the fourth life granted to the Blue opener. Kyle Wright was ******ed from the ground for excessive use of profanity, while the Reds trudged around the field in silence, attempting to shrug off the boos that crept up from the murmurs of the crowd. That disappointment was briefly traded for ecstasy at the fall of DeSilva for a duck, but two balls later Mamesh was dropped again. Lurking in the covers, Chris Dwyer saw the ball lob to him off a leading edge, but missed the ball with a casualness that hinted at matchfixing.

Raghav was frustrated but not disheartened. He rebounded to bowl Rob Bowen for 8 and screamed encouragement at his teammates. CW Blue needed 49 to win and Mamesh, on 179, was joined by Luke Tyson. The young man entered on a pair but was quickly off the mark with a single to ease his nerves. The inability of the fielders to catch anything off the bat of Mamesh made it clear that victory for the Reds would have to come at Tyson's end. Thus his contribution was vital, though only 12 not out. Mamesh casually raced past 200 with 3 boundaries in 6 balls, then hit another 3 in 4 balls to hasten the end. It was an anticlimactic finish the a game so eagerly contested on the first three days, and a result for CW Blue that confirmed a meeting with CW Black in the final.

Josh Forner led another spirited bowling performance and Cricket Web Green rose to beat the Masters XI by 15 runs. Forner took 4 wickets and increased his match tally to 8 wickets, as the Greens battled to overcome their opponents.

At 174-4, the Masters looked on course to chase 302. Brian Lara was well set on 89 and centrally involved in a partnership of 80 with Dale Benkenstein. But a well aimed yorker was all that was needed to reignite the contest. Lara shuffled across his stumps and missed the Mitchell delivery, losing his offstump in the process. The wicket opened up the game for Forner to impact, and he added two more in quick time. But the Masters were still determined and moved to the last session still on course and needing 49 more runs.

Andy Cameron got the critical breakthrough - Benkenstein lbw for 66 - and ultimately Gundry was charged with the task of completing the game. He claimed the final two wickets of the innings, his only wickets of the match.

Happy with my performance there, 46 & 28 are solid enough given my completely erratic start to my career. Taking catches regularly n all.

Woot! Well done Thamba, admist the terrible fielding from Red.

Glad to see Wright ******ed from the ground, his conduct was a disgrace haha. Hopefully he'll take that as a hint and retire whilst he's actually performed in a season for a change.

Time for another Black-Blue final, will be a hard match.
