Sorry for the Easter Sunday delay. I wanted to do a live sim, but for various reasons, I was unable to.
Cricket Web Blue vs Cricket Web Red
at the CW Oval
Nath Patrick cashed in with a 5-wicket haul, but it was the batting of CW Blue that set the tone toward a comfortable 41-run win over CW Red. In a crucial fixture, with a final berth at stake, the Blues posted 304/8 batting first, and successfully defended it behind Patrick's late burst.
Liam Camps scored another hundred at the top of the order, but it was the batting of Tom Halsey and Eric Clancroft further down that ensured the large total. After the Blues had faltered from the position of 225/4 to 249/7, the two lower order hands added 42 runs for the 8th wicket. Clancroft in particular stunned the home side, launching two huge sixes over midwicket to announce his return to the Blue first XI. After his dismissal attempting another six, Collins partnered Halsey for a quick 13 runs.
Staring at 305 and effectively the fate of their season, the famed Red top order hardly appeared intimidated. Though Markus was caught at point early in the chase, James Stedman and Alex Feeney looked confident in the addition of 108 runs for the second wicket. The partnership was ended by tragedy, however. Stedman drove a Halsey full toss powerfully back down the ground, and the bowler deflected it onto the stumps. Feeney was run out despite his desperate attempt to return to the crease.
The ever-dangerous Rob Dauth then took his guard and promptly dispatched Halsey to the point fence. A ball later, he rocked back to smack another long hop to the midwicket fence. On this occasion he only found the hands of Camps.
Suddenly it was 136/3 and 3 of the Red feared foursome back in the pavilion. Robbins was caught at slip off Collins and Stedman finally perished to the first ball delivered by Sean Fuller. It seemed an inevitable slump to defeat at that stage. Although the required rate remained a reasonable 7.5 runs per over, the lack of established batsmen meant the attack was forced and unsettled. Patrick thrived in the situation, bowling full and straight and reaping rewards to add to an outstanding season.

Cricket Web Green vs Cricket Web Colts
at Goffmouth Park
It may have been achieved with just 1 ball to spare, but the Greens recorded a comfortable win over the Colts at Goffmouth Park. Both teams began the final stretch of largely disappointing seasons, hoping to salvage some pride at the very end. It was the visiting side on this occasion that stole the glory.
The Colts chose to bat first in good conditions on what appeared to be a flat surface. The crowd looked on in anticipation of what promised to be a high-scoring affair. By the 13th over, all expectations had changed. Xavier Rose and Bryce Cunningham shared 5 wickets and demolished the Colts top order. At 35/5, even visions of 100 looked questionable. Thankfully there was much determination within those representing Goffmouth Park on the day.
Bharat loosened the shackles somewhat, then Bowman and Comley knuckled down against the disciplined Green attack. The two supplied some hope to the Colts effort and Jack McNamara and Greg Thomas added to it in passing 200.
A target of 204 may have been a cakewalk for the Green batsmen ordinarily. However, after Garven was Bowman's maiden OD wicket without scoring, they decided that they would take no chances. Literally - no chances. Completely underwhelming the large crowd, the approach of the total was very careful and workmanlike. The lack of flair made some forget just how easily the Greens progressed, addressing the difficult conditions very competently.
The winning runs arrived in the final over and the crowd showed their displeasure for the manner of the chase by booing Malone and Bharanidharan back to the pavilion.
