Cricket Web Green vs Cricket Web Colts
at Goffmouth Park
No one could predict how crucial the toss would be, but when Andrew Garven called correctly at Goffmouth Park, it set the tone a match dominated by the seam bowlers and the weather. The Greens batted first and got by far the best batting conditions of the match, though Nick Scott and Rob Malone were the only ones to post big scores. Scott in particular batted with impressive maturity on his way to his second career FC ton. Malone, on the other hand, built his innings of the dismal fielding of the Colts.
Facing 311, the Colts never looked like getting close. On a second day full of frequent and frustrating rain delays, the ball danced about and the batsmen could manage just 126 all out. Even that much was a huge task, and it was only due to the batting of Dan Rai that the Colts avoided the follow-on. Though deflated from their showing with the bat, the home side put their heads down and tried to use the conditions to their advantage.
Greg Thomas added to his first innings 3-wicket haul with a sharp early burst. He finished with 9 wickets in the match, and the Greens were stuttering at 35/6 the second time around. After winning the toss, it was his second most heroic act of the match, and Garven batted crucially on his way to 85. He received outstanding support from Tarick Weber, as the legspinner registered a half-century amidst a partnership of 135. Having ensured that all the trump cards were back with CW Green, the bowlers cut loose on the Colts once more.
This time it was Xavier Rose who did the early damage, before Andy Cameron followed up toward the end. Shan Jasotharan attempted to restore pride, but when he was run out by Weber's direct hit, the writing on the wall was highlighted further.

Cricket Web Blue vs Cricket Web Red
at the CW Oval
A do-or-die game at the CW Oval proved a classic as CW Blue took a tense 5-wicket win. Needing victory to stay alive, the Blues found themselves in a tricky spot at 62/3, needing 199 for victory. It was not exactly a situation tailor-made for the aggressive play of Dylan Jellett, but he batted for 47 not out - his second unbeaten knock of the game.
Both sides put in huge efforts, but the difference between the teams on first innings proved of greatest importance. The Blues inserted the Reds on a sporting wicket, and following the early loss of Mørk and Feeney, Rob Dauth rose to the occasion yet again versus Blue. A composed 73 was just what was needed. After the dismissal of Markus, however, no real support was forthcoming. When the score was 237/9, the Blues were on top, but a resilient cameo from Dave Watt took a bit of sting back for the Reds.
Whatever fire was regained was soon lost, however, via a route of boredom. Pete Young announced his return to the side with a very careful half-century, as he and Sean Fuller piled on 125 runs in 76 overs. Young perished to a mistimed pull shot, but Fuller continued onward to his third hundred of the season. Though the middle order flattered to deceive, Dylan Jellett played flawlessly for 57 not out, adding 33 for the ninth wicket with none other than Nath Patrick.
The Reds refused to be buried. Casting aside the shame of surrendering runs to Patrick, the openers erased the deficit of 90 with relative ease. At 111/0 the game was most certainly right in the balance. Halsey struck twice and the drama intensified. Solid contributions throughout the middle order could not compensate for the clear need for a big innings, and the eventual total of 288 bore a look of inadequacy.
Still, it meant a chase of 199 on a late game pitch, and the discipline of the Red bowlers seemed to be keeping the contest alive. Cloete was caught in the covers off Watt, then DeSilva caught at slip off Bennett, and at 124/5 it was still anyone's game. As Watt failed to hold on to Jellett's mistimed pull shot, all sensed it was a crucial miss. It was indeed the last opportunity for a wicket in the game, and though the intensity never really left the ground, the calm batting of Camps and Jellett saw a less than eventful finish to a largely eventful battle.
