Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Colts
at CW Oval
Scorecard
Ball By Ball
Red eked out victory after good spells from their seamers, though it was Kyle Wright who tugged this match back into a contest after a massive opening stand from Red. Colts responded in kind, but failed to keep up with the run rate, and lost by just three runs after being choked by Watt and Bennett near the death.
Red batted first, and went very well, losing one wicket in the first 26 overs before Wright reintroduced himself - with stunning returns. In a three over spell, Wright claimed five wickets for four runs, and the game needed a Robbins/Bennett partnership to be tugged back to parity. Red eventually eked out 220 for eight, but it looked too small, especially after Colts quietly amassed 128 in the first 30 overs.
The return of Kennett brought similar effects, however; he struck to remove both Towns and Das. Wides were abundant, however, and by the start of the 40th over Colts required 40 with eight wickets in hand.
It should have been a breeze. However, Watt's deliveries to Malthus-Howell and Jasotharan were simply unplayable, conceding two runs in his two-over spell; with Bennett providing a maiden over to Pitt, Colts suddenly needed 26 off 24, and it got worse when Robbins beat the bat thrice in the next over. Despite Pitt and Bharat finally finding the boundaries at the end, it was too little, and Red won a match they deserved to lose by three runs.
