Cricket Web Green v Cricket Web Blue
at CWBCC Stadium
Scorecard
Ball By Ball
Blue's good batting form from the recent match vanished against Rose and Goughy, and the inability of Green to build on the excellent start from Malone and Garven was not punished. Too many key Blue players simply didn't turn up, and a comprehensive victory was the result.
Green batted first, and Malone and Garven put on 118 for the first wicket, with little problems posed by any of the seam bowlers, though Halsey bowled tightly and was well rewarded when Garven and Vaughan tried to charge him. Neither Scott nor Rodgie managed to settle, and inside edged for low scores, and only Don Lezama made any significant contribution in the final overs.
Nevertheless, the target of 227 was way too high. Kev Goughy bounced out two wickets in a fiery opening spell, and with Fuller and Crampton gifting away their wickets when set, Blue crashed to 70 for six. Patient part-time bowling from Garven and Malone ensured a comfortable win for Green, while Blue wondered what had happened to their batting.
Cricket Web Green 226 for six (50 overs; Garven 72, Malone 58; Halsey 2/25, Currie 2/46)
Cricket Web Blue 128 all out (32.5 overs; Malone 3/17, Goughy 2/34)
Cricket Web Green won by 98 runs
Man of the Match: Andrew Garven

Ball By Ball
Chris Dwyer matured to the status of top class cricketer today, playing a measured knock which took Red to victory in the penultimate over despite a horrible batting performance from both sides.
By the end of the second over, Black had lost three wickets for no runs, as the reshuffling of the batting order had failed once again. Black smashed out, with Jennifer Law the sole beacon in the bleak performance, and Watt and Kennett got five wickets in their opening spell. Nayak got slogged out of the attack, but still claimed Mike Wilson, and Marc Robbins and Chris Dwyer rounded a Butler-less Black off for 158.
However, Red never seemed to settle at the crease. A comical run out of Kearsley was followed up by a slog from Bennett: 42 for three. Dauth and Dobson rebuilt, but Hoy removed Dobson and Robbins failed completely, scratching around for a 16-ball two. That, however, brought Dwyer to the wicket.
He too started cautiously, scoring seven off his first 28 balls with Dauth the man to take them to the target. But Dauth hoiked Wilson for 30, and Red were 97 for six, with still 62 runs to get. Mørk followed four overs later, showing why he should not play the one-day game as he pulled Pickup straight into the hands of Thompson, and Nayak gritted around for eight from 39 deliveries. By now, both overs and wickets were starting to be a problem: when Nayak fell, Dwyer was on 38 from 73, with 39 balls to score 20 runs. Watt stuck around, though he was thumped on the pads numerous times, and was eventually caught behind for four; seven required off twelve balls. However, Callum Thompson's final over was poor, Dwyer and Kennett got bat on everything and ran everything, before Dwyer cut the fifth ball of the over for four to win the game in dramatic fashion.
