Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Colts
at PDV Dome
Scorecard
Ball By Ball
Blue made themselves comfortable in the Dome by posting a huge total after being invited to bat, and never looked like losing from then on, reducing Colts to 111 for seven before some lower order resilience reduced the target.
A fine one-day partnership between Andrew Cloete and Dinu de Silva was the clincher, as the two batted together for the best part of the morning to add 160. Weber and McNamara failed to offer real pressure, and once the new ball and swing had gone, there really was little threat. Cloete was run out by a fine piece of fielding, two short of what would have been his twelfth one-day century, while Tarick Weber picked up two wickets before Young came up top in the battle of the former Test legends, smacking a six and four fours in a blitz of 27.
Chasing 290 was always going to be difficult with Colts' brittle batting line-up; difficult quickly turned impossible when Demeza smashed Pitt's middle stump and Das gave a limp catch to Goff at point, and Colts were 29 for three. Stephen Burke tried to rebuilt at his usual dour pace, but with the required run rate ballooning he found himself needing to play expansive strokes, and smashed a ball to Peter Young. With third-change bowler Liam Camps demolishing the lower middle order, only Jasotharan and Weber remained to hit any significant runs, and with the run rate nearly eight an over they settled for surviving the 50 overs. This was managed, though Blue took all the points and lead the league ahead of Green after one day.
