Should've gone with the rest of the backroom staff after the 6 Nations for mine, but there you go.

Nice bloke, decent coach, not a manager, time to move on.

To who is another issue, pretty much a poisoned challice just now really. My guess would be an internal promotion because the coaching staff is relatively new & if we go for a big non-English name they'd probably want to bring their own people in with them.

I don't think things are quite as hopeless as they seem just now. With luck we could make the WC Final. Don't laugh! If we beat yer Saffies in the group stage (50/50 call at worst), we'll probably play Wales in the Quarters (who've beaten us once in the last nine) & probably France in the semis. If it rains & Jonny's fit, Bob's your uncle: a gallant defeat to the All Blacks in the final, honour restored! :p
Oh come of it!We're rubbish, accept it.

It's that attitude that's taken us to the heights of 7th in the world.... :p

Seriously tho, you can get 25/1 on us for the WC. Each-way pays 1/3 odds on a final spot. Really not a bad value bet at all.

Next you'll be telling us Andy Farrell will be the star inside centre on this amazing run.

We'll see after this weekend, my boy. Has his first taste of international Rugby (excluding all that 13 man gubbins); he plays for a World XV v yer Saffies at The Walkers Stadium.

Dammit, I was going to get tickets to that :( *humph*

Anyway, Andrew's been quoted as saying "If you are a betting man you would think it is highly likely (no-one will be appointed by 3 February),". Wonderful.

Looks quite an interesting squad for the World XV. From the Beeb:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/6154078.stm

World XV team
Dave Hewett (Edinburgh Gunners & Scotland), Fabio Ongaro (Saracens & Italy), Cobus Visagie (Saracens & South Africa), Simon Shaw (London Wasps & England), Alister Campbell (ACT Brumbies & Australia), Michael Owen (Newport Gwent Dragons & Wales), Jonny O'Connor (London Wasps & Ireland), Lawrence Dallaglio (captain - London Wasps & England Backs), Justin Marshall (vice-captain - Ospreys & New Zealand), Thomas Castaignede (Saracens & France), Drew Mitchell (Queensland Reds & Australia), Andy Farrell (Saracens), Ryan Cross (Western Force & Australia Rugby League), Clinton Schiscofske (Queensland Reds & Australia Rugby) League, Matt Perry (Bath & England)

Replacements: Vernet Basualdo (Asociacion Alumni & Argentina) Nic Henderson (ACT Brumbies & Australia) Takuro Miuchi (NEC Rockets & Japan) David Croft (Queensland Reds & Australia) Gareth Cooper (Newport Gwent Dragons & Wales) Pablo Gomez Cora (Lomas Athletic (U.R.B.A) & Argentina) Thinus Delport (Worcester Warriors & South Africa)

Dunno how competitive it'll be, mind. It has Ryan Cross & Clinton Schifcofske (the Beeb couldn't even be arsed to spell his name correctly!) in the starting XV &, as far as I know, neither has yet started a top-flight Union game! Both were playing NRL til very recently.

Good to see Marshall still rated highly, I reckon he's still the #1 halfback in the world by a long way.

World XV looking quite poo. Might put the Everton game on.

Finding the commentators love of Farrell quite sickening. Describing him as a legend of rugby league and such. Wonder what that makes Sculthorpe, who for two thirds of Farrell's career has been quicker, stronger, a far better kicker, has acheived more for his club and performed better for his country - out of position, too, as Farrell was wasting the 13 jersey. Although, tbf, I wouldn't expect any different from a union man. For a northern monkey to even be considered for a switch to union, he'd have to be an all time great in that tinpot 13 a side game. 8-)

Pretty shocking, TBH. Thought Cross did ok tho.

WRT Sculthorpe, Phil Larder said he was considered but told the RFU he wasn't interested at all, which is why they went for Farrell, apparently. From yesterday's Guardian:

http://sport.guardian.co.uk/rugbyunion/comment/0,,1962335,00.html

Andy Farrell's much-discussed move to rugby union was instigated by Sir Clive Woodward, who ordered a trawl for rugby league talent by two of his coaches, Phil Larder and Joe Lydon, after England lost all three Tests on their 2004 summer tour to New Zealand and Australia.

"Clive gave us all objectives," said Larder this week. "Ours included bringing a couple of rugby league players in. Joe went his way, I went mine, watching matches, looking at a lot of youngsters, but I'm not brilliant at looking at a 19- or 20-year-old and saying that in three years' time he's going to be the best in the world in another sport."

They then met at Larder's home in Yorkshire and agreed that each should list the first three names that would be written on the Great Britain rugby league teamsheet. Both named Paul Sculthorpe of St Helens, Farrell and Kris Radlinski, the Wigan full-back.

"Joe had already spoken to Sculthorpe and he wasn't interested," said Larder, "but Farrell surprised us, and Wigan surprised us, by saying it might be on."

The deal, jointly funded by Twickenham and Saracens, was eventually completed in March 2005 - by which time Woodward had resigned as England head coach, making way for Andy Robinson.
