If it is really true that the BCCI is simply stepping up for its players, do we know, for sure, which (senior) players are so vehemently against improving cricket?

I'd like to know which players to dislike for a reason :) .

yeah its a bad thing not using udrs. but hey can we please move on? it's irritating to open this thread and see a geriantismyhero rant against bcci.
To be fair, that is, this time, not GimH's fault, but the BCCI's.

Well now you know how the rest of us feel anytime you post. If I wanna rant, I'll rant.

IMO there's nothing currently in cricket more annoying and infuriating than India's refusal to use the UDRS. If we're going to rant about anything, it should be this.

Anyway to bring up one of GIMHs pet topics, this thread has been taken over by a UDRS marathon, a seperate thread was created for this UDRS decision but it was merged with this thread and now you can't see any decent discussion about the series for the UDRS debate. Would this be happening with a sub forum? Certainly would put me off posting in the thread, and can you imagine what will happen when there is a contentious decision in the test series?

Plus not only do England and the home nations get a permanent vice presidency of FIFA ,they also have permanent seats on IFAB.

And don't get me started on field hockey moving from grass to astro turf and the abolition of the offside rule there and the selection of Olympic sports.

Cricket is pretty even in terms of power split.
Which was given to us by FIFA as a thank you for the Great Britain vs Rest of the World match played at Hampden in 1949 - the gate receipts of which saved FIFA from bankruptcy.

bcci didn't ban bond as far as I know. it was nzc which did it. as to bcci indirectly pressurising nzc to do so, they are within their rights, as icl as a rebel league would've been a cancer unchecked, as the promoters of that league had no vision, or any idea to expand the league into fc nature. bcci with ipl assimilated t20 cricket into the calendar, while at the same time without compromising on regular season cricket including first class. ICL, had left unchecked, would.ve easily robbed players left, right and center into playing only t20 cricket, whcih, within years would've spelt doom for the game as we know it.

so look at the big picture, bond's banning was in the greater good of cricket.

I am no soldier for BCCI, but they get sometimes more than their share of curses here.

I feel there are bigger dangers for cricket in the form of Ireland's players used at will by english cricket, whcih potentially can damage irish cricket in the long run, and the question of minnows not getting a shot at next world cup. there is the case of NZC facing shortage of funds and player attrition (hamish marshall and ian o brien migrated to england, and play in county cricket, people talk abt ipl stealing talent from countries, but this goes under discussed), West Indies crippled by shortage of leadership and Pakistan in turmoil owing to controllable and un controllable factors. These for me are critical issues that require immediate and urgent actioining upon than global implementation of udrs or moaning abt someone's ban for playing in rebel leagues.
I agree completely with that but it's harsh to blame the ECB for exploiting rules which are set up to favour Full Members.

The ICC's rules regarding eligibility are a complete joke and severely hamper the Associates.

The Ireland-England point is a tricky one because if it weren't for the shaky eligibility rules, Irish cricketers would count as overseas players. Thus hardly any of them would be able to learn their game in county cricket.

If the Irish domestic circuit (currently just consiting of club cricket, I believe) were left to fend for itself and produce a national team, would that benefit the Ireland side? Maybe in the long run, but it's not what Ireland wants or needs right now.

Not all of them. Some of them will be British citizens.

Given the historic employment rights Irish citizens have had, as well as EU employment law, wouldn't the overseas player thing be relatively easy to challenge in the courts?

I'm no lawyer, so I don't know. But the ECB have gotten very finicky over this sort of thing lately, and it doesn't seem to be the exact same rules as work permits in other professions. Look at Iain O' Brien, for example.
