Are you talking about the same Buttler that is an abject misery in tests?
Butler's test record is actually ok - he averages 32 with the bat which isn't too shabby for keeper.

He's on a par with the likes of Dujon, Knott.and Haddin.

Given his white ball brilliance, as an England fan we hoped for better but in isolation, averaging 32 as a keeper in tests is pretty respectable.

I don't want to cause an argument here, but the team that won the Final had one Test player in it and that was the much maligned Bancroft who has never really set the world alight in County Cricket.
True. But the side that won the Final wasn't the full strength Shield side due to injuries and other duties.

And without answering that one, it's interesting to note the FC averages of the keepers discussed:

Bairstow 43.6
Foakes 40.1
Carey 33.6
Inglis 32.9
Buttler 32.2

About a decade ago or even more recently myself and others were consistently burned by assuming County performances would translate into Plunket Shield performances.

They don't. Generally speaking it is easier to bowl and harder to bat in County than it is in NZ, and that probably holds true for Australia as well.

Conditions may have changed. A pile of NZ reserves (mostly batsmen) played County last year while the test series was ongoing and did quite well. Glenn Phillips carried it over into our summer but I think Ravindra's summer was a bit middling. These are fringe international players though, so you'd expect them to do well in an 18 team competition. It would be hard for any cricketing nation to keep the quality up with that many teams, hence divisions.

English FC cricketers tend to be fine in domestix here with the exception of Woakes bowling lmao

I wish Australia would do a warm up game before the 1st Test. There'll be enough players already in England to make 2 teams (and window there as no county cricket between 21 May and 11 June)

Warner, Khawaja, Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Green, Carey, Starc, Cummins, Lyon, Hazelwood

Vs

Harris, Renshaw, Bancroft, Handscomb, Marsh, Whiteman, Inglis, Neser, Abbott, Murphy, Boland

Just noticed 6 of the 8 pacemen in those two squads are over 30. 7 of them when Pat hits the big 3 - 0 in a couple of days time.

Good round from an Aussie perspective. Neser got 7, marnus got 60 and 170*, handscomb amongst the runs again, Whiteman got 130* in the 4th dig to salvage his side a draw against a good Somerset attack.
