Yeah cage is fine, pretty forgettable though

Agree re: the whole big man doing flips thing though, just don't need to see that

If Bobby Lashley can work as a top guy in WWE (even if it took them a good half dozen repackages), anybody can be a cool character in the right situation.
Maybe it's wrestling death matches in GCW or something
haha they basically just went full circle with this, ending up packaging him in the way they initally packaged him back in 2006

I mean Lashley isn't the greatest worker, but they really ****ed him up pretty bad with how they handled him over the years, should have been way bigger

I mean how can you look at this guy and go "I know, what we'll do is give him a gimmick where his only character trait is...*checks notes*... going around slapping his own ass"

Lol had forgotten the marriage to Lana thing as well

And I actually unironcally enjoyed that tbh, just because of the sheer madness of it all, but it was 100% wrestlecrap

Wasting guys like Lashley and Rusev on this sort of bollix is pretty dire really

I'm glad the "forbidden door" signing wasn't Keith Lee, but tbh the "forbidden door" tag was still stupid despite being used re: Jat White (i.e. because AEW has already had several NJPW talents appear on their shows)

Or maybe White is signed permanently somehow, rather than just making guest appearances, I dunno

You could have him sign a contract in kayfabe. It's a bit worrying that he was only contacted on Sunday because Tony Khan accidentally advertised Keith Lee as the forbidden door signing though. There are so many interesting directions they could go in, hope they actually have plans for him.

Because I'm a nerd and I've had a lot of time on my hands while I've had covid I've listed out my favourite matches, split into WWE/non-WWE lists ...and because I'm unhealthily solipsistic I thought I'd inflict them on you all in countdown form.

Feel free to comment/ignore me/throw out recommendations/tell me to shut the hell up as you feel appropriate.

Favourite WWE matches first, starting with two of the most famous matches they've ever put on:

20. Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels, Survivor Series 1997 (Montreal)

Infamous match for the result, behind the scenes shenanigans and general fallout, but amongst that it's often forgotten how good the match was. I think this is the peak of Attitude era 'brawl all around the arena' style. HBK is at his most gloriously unlikable and the crowd heat is off the charts. The only shame is that the finish is ...kinda unsatisfying? You may be aware of it.

19. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock, WM17

Two of the most charismatic and popular wrestlers in history colliding at their peak. Such is their radiant coolness that even Limp Bizkit seem kinda neat in the pre match hype video. Rocky is good in this match but Austin is on another level, one of his very best performances. We get another controversial finish that the crowds rejected but it works for me.

About the Montreal Screwjob, the best part of this was the pre-match brawl. It’s super intense and well executed, and the crowd was in a mad frenzy. Once they got to the match it’s still quite good, the best match these two had with each other in my opinion.

The ending like you say is a mess, probably one of the most historically significant as hell moments in wrestling history but it adds nothing to the match itself and yeah........does make all the action leading up to it somewhat unfulfilling.

Still, this match has many good moments in itself, and deserves to be on the list for the historical significance alone.

Jay White has been teasing an AEW cross-over on NJPW Strong and asking for someone "truly Elite" as recently as two weeks ago, which finished with an Adam Cole reference that didn't really make sense but kind of does now, so even if the deal to appear was deal on the Sunday, I suspect it's a bit like the Bryan/Mox angle and it was written down as something to do in the future and they just bumped it up and tweaked some things.

Trent being the guy to have the match feels a bit like Lance Archer being the fourth guy in the KENTA/Mox/Omega match, someone trusted and rated highly by NJPW that can take the pin.
