**Official** Pakistan v New Zealand in the UAE 2014

Yesssss.

Anderson is way too high at 5, but Baz opening and no Rutherford is a win for cricket as a whole.
Way too high? Five is probably where he will end up in a year or two (or three). He'll be fine.

So good. I'm still not convinced about Craig over Wagner but this is the closest we've been to our best lineup in a while.

I don't trust Cricinfo and they haven't mentioned that McCullum's opening and we know that's definitely true due to the direct quote from Baz. We'll have to see.

Couldn't agree more. I took the 80:1 for Craig to top score on bet365 and all. :p
Well Sodhi's been demoted for you. Southee has defended his territory at No. 8.

BLACKCAPS know they're in for a fight in first Test

The first Test team will line up as follows, with Brendon McCullum to open the batting:

Brendon McCullum (c)
Tom Latham
Kane Williamson
Ross Taylor
Corey Anderson
Jimmy Neesham
BJ Watling
Tim Southee
Mark Craig
Ish Sodhi
Trent Boult

As much as I dislike Southee at 8 as a long term or permanent thing, I like the bedding in of the new guys who 'aren't quite all rounders' low down the order until they show they're comfortable. Nearly-debutants have enough on their mind.

I thinks this is a learning the current mgmt have from Doug Bracewell.

Btw, Sodhi had worked his way above Southee by the Windies series, but then looked poor with the bat since then. So this could be a demotion of 2 places in the batting order since his last test? with the same same bottom order.

Bloody hell, blackcaps v Pakistan way down on Sky Sports 8?!

Do TelstraClear subscribers even get these channels?

yeah can deal with that

before australia got mowed i was quietly confident about this. get through younis and misbah with our good attack and negotiate their rookie attack which lacks junaid and ajmal and we're in with a good shot.

i mean that could still be the case but it's a bit easier said than done hey. any normal team would have been smoked by a world number one if they were missing two of their best.

edit: if Baz becomes a perma-opener then i wouldn't mind WPWB at 5 if his body and form can handle being in the top five plus keeping. then we can let our two allrounders settle in at six and seven and smash ****s. puts a lot of onus on the top four to give him a rest though, and there might be too much aggression from 6 down.

he's the fourth best batsman available anyway so i wouldn't mind him being given an opportunity to bat higher up with other batsmen rather than spend half his life with the tail, especially since he's not a rapid scorer.

Nah baz said it's purely horses-for-courses.

The explanation was that they wanted the two allrounders, but I suspect it's also because Rutherford hasn't played any cricket, as Kippax said.

random comment: crazy to think Baz has only played in 28 plunket shield games in his 14 year career.

ross has 40 from 12 which is still a bit low and big daddy kane has 21 from 6 years. he also has the best shield record by far.

haha holy **** went to compare how that amount of games compares to crowe in his day and saw he hit 13 tons for central districts from 32 games at an average of nearly 70. jesus.

66 games over 16 years ftr.

Vettori's only played something like 22 games for ND too.
