Weren't they more to LH batsmen?

Not sure but just from watching Lyon bowling it didn't seem like a dismissal that was likely to eventuate.
No, the arm ball was his main weapon against the right handers and he took a lot of wickets with it.

I don't expect that Craig will bowl like Swann, I do expect that Craig will bowl better than Sodhi.

Well, on the basis that Lyon is a better bowler than Craig - or at least more proven at the international level - and wasn't able to effect this mode of dismissal I'm not seeing it as likely.

We'll see. They'll both play.

Lyon was expected to take most of the wickets for his side, we don't need our spinner to be a wicket taker, we just need to ensure our spinner doesn't go at fours and remove all pressure from the opposition. The idea that you think "Well, Lyon as an off spinner had no joy, so lets rule out all off spinners and that means Sodhi is better despite all evidence suggesting Sodhi can't even land 3 in 6 deliveries at the moment" is a little scary, because its shared by selectors, apparently.

There is a spectrum between simply picking your best pure bowlers (which Sodhi and Craig are nowhere near) and picking the types of bowlers based on conditions. You don't drop Dale Steyn or Rangana Herath wherever you're playing, but whereas you might pick Ravindra Jadeja in India, you shouldn't pick him outside the subcontinent.

I'm not sure that I completely agree with the direction Hesson is taking but it's a valid selection policy.

I think kiwis will do better, swing bowlers like Boult and Southee have a better chance in those pitches than Johnno and Siddle, the fact that they eat meat will also help itbt

Sodhi with the most undeserved 5-fer in the history of NZ cricket. Thankfully it's not a FC match. I'd hate for such a rubbish player, the worst in our history, to stink up the records.

Haha, Ronchi opening the batting. I guess there isn't going go be a lot of sideways movement to trouble that gaping chasm between bat and pad.

Yeah Rutherford had no Plunket Shield hit-out, needed to be out there to prove his fitness and form.

Would explain why Anderson bowled so many overs, if either Ronchi or Neesham were going to partner Latham all along.
hendo's hero, wonky, kane, ross, corey j, shark eyes, wpwb, sodhi, craig, 5outhee, boult

it's gonna happen

also, we need clever names for the bowlers. only 5outhee has a good one.

Cmon Bahnz.. be honest.

The first dismissal was the batsman making a big mistake, playing across the line with a sweep shot to a full delivery that should have been driven.
The second dismissal was the batsman plonking his foot down the line and not playing for the straight one, this was made even worse by how short the ball pitched - complete loss of concerntration by the batsman
The third dismissal was a short pie that turned into an absolute gift by good fielding/**** batting.
The last dismissal was a tail end batsman having a wog.

You can give him the second dismissal as being a wrong'un and deceiving the batsman but look at it again, look at how short it pitched and ask yourself if Azhar, Misbah or Younis would get out to that type of delivery.

A good thing was the pace/bounce that Southee and Boult seemed to be extracting.

Ronchi's been reading Cricket web, and took note of Flem's comment that he'd need to offer to open if he ever wanted to play test cricket.

I reckon McCullum was going to do it today. Got sick. "In terms of the tempo and retaining my precious left-right combo, who's a good stooge version of McCullum?", Hesson thought.
