he has a good first class average, swings and reverse swings the ball at mid-late 130s.

While that's not anything elite, he's probably Test standard and has the ability to perform consistently at this level.

It's a good delivery but it's hardly unplayable, Clarke just chose the wrong line to cover as the ball came back in - played it too early basically. See any number of those deliveries at club level.
