From what I have seen, this young Bess could develop into a good spin bowler.
Since county cricket gives very little opportunities for spin bowlers, its just as well that he is being groomed on the test match arena.

You can't have everything. Either play 5 bowlers or a specialist batsman at 6.

What I have liked the most is the preparation done by Pakistan for this series. Even though they are playing 2 tests, they played 3 practice games and a test match against Ireland before this. Whether they win or lose, this is how Asian teams must prepare when touring overseas. I wish BCCI could have planned practice games before touring overseas instead of irrelevant ODI bilaterals.
