***Official **** Pakistan in Zimbabwe

The difference in their first class records is huge, I'd have thought they'd be reasonably easy to compare too since it sounds as though they're both medium pace and both played for the Tuskers (Mpofu interestingly batted at 9 for them in the match Meth took 13 wickets in). Seems a complete no-brainer really.

Does Zimbabwe have a lot of politics or racial quotas in their team selections?
As far as I know there's not a lot of politics involved in Test or ODI selection anymore - it used to be a big problem and it still happens a fair bit at lower levels but the international team has been picked essentially on merit for a while now. The selectors are often a bit clueless, but I don't think it's politics causing that as much as basic, typical selection errors.

Meth is considered by many to be too slow to make the step up. Yes, Mpofu is medium pace as well, but Meth is even slower so there's a theory he'd be exposed at this level. Mpofu is also a lot more experienced internationally and Meth has looked pretty damn poor in ODIs, although one day cricket has never really been his thing. I don't really agree with the rationale at all - to me picking a bloke that bowls 125km/hr based on extra pace is ridiculous as if you're going to bowl that slow or slower it's not going to be an asset to you either way - but that's why Mpofu was preferred originally.

It's all a tad irrelevant as Meth is injured at the moment and won't be back for a little while yet, but it still grates me a bit that he didn't play the Bangladesh Test.

Hafeez has been breathtaking so far.

He has so much talent, all the confidence in the world, incredible timing,he really should have a better overall career than he has currently.Hopefully his rebirth as a cricketer over the last one odd year can continue for the next 4-5 years. He's 30,so he could play till he's 35-36.

Anyway, great innings by him so far.Hopefully he can get a huge score, and Pakistan get a big enough lead to bowl Zimbabwe out cheaply since i think only one team will bat again in order to force a result with only 3 days left.Ideally,Pakistan should bat the whole of tomorrow, and then give Zimbabwe a go towards the end of the 4th day,by which time Pakistan should have a sizeable lead if they maintain their current scoring rate.

Pakistan scoring at 4 runs an over here. If they can bat for 5 more sessions here I think they might get a good enough lead to try and test Zim in the remaining 4 sessions. Don't know if Pakistan will last that long though

Yes.At 116/1 for 1,i think the best we can hope for is 120 all out.118 looks more realistic, but i'm being an optimist this once.

Hafeez has the tendency to throw away his wicket when looking absolutely superb.
Azhar Ali looks not comfortable or is in Tuk-Tuk King Misbah style, they really need to learn how to rotate strike.

I would be interested on how Umar Akmal plays on this road, if he gets going, it should be better than Hafeez. His cut shots

Meth isn't exactly a staple in any Text XI though.

I mean come on, he tried to catch a cricket ball with his teeth.

Umar Akmal is another one of the brainless khatmals (others being addu and kami). If these brothers even had a brain the size of the brain of a khatmal (Khatmal is a mosquito type insect that bites) then they would have done a lot with their talents.

How many meth users does it take to change a lightbulb?

4, one to hold the lightbulb and three to smoke until the room spins.

Hafeez living a charmed life, more dropped catches. Good, swift knock to try and get Pakistan ahead, though.

186/1.......still 227 to go to catch up with Zim........as expected the run rate has come down significantly....from 4 rpo to 3.36

Azhar Ali impresses me more and more everytime i see him.He has all the makings of a great test batsman. He will probably be our middle order lynchpin along with Asad Shafique when Younis and Misbah call it a day.

I like Azhar's game but I worry about that top score of 92. Nine unconverted fifties, for a #3, is a sizeable problem.

No maiden 100 for Azhar today. After Hafeez's hundred, Pak innings has completely stalled. Taylor's decision to not bowl Price and Lamb in the first hour wasn't very bright.
