Should be Make or break inns for Kyle Mayers.. You can't be a one hit wonder & stay in the side over guys like Pooran & Hetty.
I think it's time to select either Mayers or Chase to playbat 6, depending on conditions.

There's enough mediocrity/inconsistency in that batting lineup without adding bits and pieces players because they can bowl a few overs.

Mayers is in danger of turning into another Dwayne Smith and Chase always looks like he's going to be bowled or out lbw.

If Lewis and Pooran play some fc cricket then they could provide options, failing that, it would go back to picking from Bravo, Brooks, Hetmyer and Hope.

If it were up to me, Chase goes. Mayers bats at 6 (needs some runs against SL though). Evin Lewis comes in to open, Pooran and Hety should at least be around the squad playing warm up games, there is zero cricket on in the Caribbean for them. Otherwise we just have to accept that this generation of West Indian batsmen aren't up to it.

A lot of work has been put into the current Under 19 team over the last 2 to 3 years and I was pleased with what I saw on the live feeds. Hopefully we will produce a test batsman or two in the next 3 to 4 years. With our bowling attack we can win lots of tests with even 2 test class batsmen tbh.

My team for SL would be:

Kraigg Braithwaite
Evin Lewis
Nkrumah Bonner
Nicholas Pooran
Jermaine Blackwood
Kyle Mayers
Jason Holder
Joshua Da Silva (wk)
Rakheem Cornwall
Kemar Roach
Jayden Seales

Reserves
Shai Hope (back up opener and keeper)
Shimron Hetmeyer
Veerasammy Permaul
Chemar Holder
Shannon Gabriel

Mayers has 2 fifties and a double in 14 innings at 40+ that is plenty good enough output from a number 6 who bowls so well too
Bonner has a ton and 2 fifties in 10 innings at 43
These are not one hit wonders they can play and are dedicated to test cricket. After all the years of mediocrity I really hope the selectors don't discard these two. If they can battle to a draw today they will have won 2 test series and drawn one this year and lost to South Africa because de mock regained his form and had a gun series

I know the batting is still not good but that is because your number 4 who is meant to be the best bat averages 30 and the opener 20. They need to stick with the others and let them work test cricket out and try to push their averages past 45

Shimron Hetmyer has played two first-class matches since the start of 2020 and I’m staggered that Nicholas Pooran has played only five first-class games in his career so far.

Is there a lack of appetite for the longer form, don’t blame them with their white ball abilities to earn a few quid around the world. Surely if they desired red ball cricket they could have got a few games in in county cricket ? Looking at the inconsistencies in the WI Test side with the bat would have thought they’d be pushing them to get some first-class cricket under their belts.

Our selectors haven't got an innovative bone in their bodies. All that outside of the box thinking is beyond them when it comes to batsmen, though we're ok to throw pacers with no FC experience into test cricket (with decent results!).

Our main problem is the domestic season runs alongside the IPL and with all the white-ball cricket Pooran and Hety are hardly ever around to play it anyway. The other thing is that due to COVID we haven;t had a domestic red ball season since early 2020, so the only sample they have to go on are best v best games, hence why the likes of Chase and Powell got re selected after half decent performances in one game despite failing for years and years before that. We desperately need a 4 day domestic season basically.

Yes completely understand the lack of domestic 4-day cricket has made it difficult for players to push their case and for players to improve in that format. That’s why if there was a real hunger for Test cricket these very talented shorter form cricketers would try and secure a contract in county cricket, outside of IPL commitments. Maybe they have tried and I’m doing them a disservice.

Yeah surely WIndies should consider roll the dice on Pooran and Lewis. Even if it doesn't work, it's not like any of their current bats are scoring runs, and their white ball success suggests their raw batting ability is better than most of the current side. Even Pollard.

Suprised they havent tried giving pollard a test cap before tbh, he's been around the whiteball squads forever and his FC stats are actually fairly decent considering the "pitches" if you can call them that that would have been going around when he played domestic red ball.

Hetmyer should more maturity in the most recent games he’s played. It out of his character and not like the gung-ho batsman that he is…it’ll take some time to get used to, but I’m sure he has his eyes set on the test arena; his return to.

Liklihood is he's going to put T/20 tournaments over Tests.

Lewis is interested in playing tests but wants to play some FC Cricket first.

If the likes of Pooran was to commit to playing Tests over T/20s then he's got to come into the reckoning.
