BARNES OUT
I've been a tailender like Gabriel and been in such situations. It's hard to explain but something happens to us and we can't help ourselves.. It's like I've blocked a lot now..spent some time at the crease like my coach tells me, can I not try one shot now? One tiny winy little shot? What could be the worst?
You're not a professional. In any likely scenario where you were in a similar situation you likely paid fees out of your own pocket to play, which is a completely different situation. This guy is paid to play cricket. He played one of the worst shots in living memory. It's inexcusable.

You don't drop him. You just make sure it doesn't happen again when he's out there next time.

Spectacular. Wonder if it was just a brain-fade, or a premeditated strategy. Either way, gotta feel for Beamer.

Wow... sorry I missed the ending to that... at least Chase got his hundred, I'm happy about that.

Of course you don't drop him. The shame and complete humiliation will be sufficient.

Nah, I'd bin him. Was so, so , so bad.

Don't be taking this new Gandhi persona into Cricket Chat mate.

Upon seeing it, my take is that Gabriel panicked when Yasir bowled a faster ball and feared it was heading towards his stumps and just thought a slog would get it out of the danger area.

As for any other tailend bats doing the same in that situation, reckon Tim Southee would be a likely one.

On a broader level, while this series will get overlooked even amongst cricket fans this was a terrific series. Pakistan generally looked the better side throughout, especially in the batting (they had the three highest innings scores in the series).

But the West Indies really showed great fight and application and despite a very weak top 5, held their own and came within a whisker of drawing the series.

As an aside, so much for those weather forecasts that rain was going to ruin all 5 days. Was any play lost at all after Day 1?

You don't drop him imo. It was obviously a bad shot but I don't think it was "I am going to hit a six now" bad. I think he felt claustrophobic with all the men around the bat and thought that he'd better off trying to smash that away from them than try and block it and get an edge. It might not even be premeditated, a split second scared decision.

Tragic story for Chase and Gabriel though. No one is going to talk about how much Gabriel has improved his bowling, now it's all going to be that shot.

Holder has serious potential with the bat. He would be much better to the team if he just focused on his batting and they bring in a specialist 3rd quick. Jerome Taylor's taken back his retirement and seems in good from.

For all their faults, WI seem to have been involved in a bunch of great Tests in the last few years. Minus one Gabriel shot, they have fight at least.

Yep, I think this is 100% accurate. He probably reckoned that even if I edge it will go too fast for anybody to catch it.
