*Official* Pakistan in the West Indies

I can't see the point of them playing for the draw anyway. Excluding rain, there's nearly 200 overs remaining in the match, and 471 runs to get. The chance of them scoring another 471 runs with 6 wickets in hand is probably higher than them surviving that long anyway.

There's only 25 overs left. Even Bangladesh hung on for that long...
i think you would realise thier was a bit of sarcasm in that statement mate

Pakistan were way too confident coming into this test.

(they should have realised that doing well against India in India doesnt really mean much :p ;) and that this may be a more demanding contest)

Not that the test is over yet - though it looks almost impossible from here.
Unless a combination of weather, bad bowling and good batting save Pakistan.
I hope WI win though, and win in a big way - they deserve it.

Great work by Lara in the first innings - isnt he batting better now that he is free of the captaincy? - and a fine captains knock by Chanderpaul in the second innings to press home the advantage. Go West Indies!

if you look back at pakistan's recent success, it's been based around inzi mainly, as well as youhana and malik. Younis khan, afridi and razzaq have done some good things, but its the other 3 that have really won them the matches.

none of them are playing...

You said it.

The young crop of Pakistani batsmen(and most young Indian batsmen to) do not have the game to do well consistently at test level on any but the best of batting wickets and the most toothless of bowling. Faced with nearly 6oo runs their young openers (read Butt) cant help driving flamboyantly. None of them has the game to play out a match for a draw.

Windies did them a huge favour by dramatically reducing the time left in the test match. It was still a lot of time but could have been worse. but I am not at all amazed by the way they went about it.

Without Inzy and Yohanna they are just a one day side.

But forget Pakistan, What was Chanderpaul thinking ?

if he thinks his bowlers cant defend 500 runs in under two days in the fourth innings of a test match against a side whose best three batsmen are not playing, he might as well put in his papers and tel his board, "This is a job no one in the world can do since we have the lousiest side ever in the history of the game" !!

Err, by taking just one statistical anomaly out of tens of examples and touting a team based on it doesn't mean jack.

there is very little chance that pakistan can win this. There is absolutely no chance (provided weather holds) that Pakistan can draw it.
lol. I did exaggerate their unpredictability in my comments before. But, they are unpredictable and I still see a rather remote chance of them winning this game. :)

take out the two best batsman from any test team (including australia) and they are going to struggle for a while.

Take out
dravid and sehwag from india, they look very weak
Ponting and Martyn
Kallis and Smith
Strauss and Vaughan
Lara and Chanderpaul

give them time, and most teams will work out how to win without their two stars..someone else will step up.

In pakistan's case, they were also missing probably their 3rd best composed player in Shoaib Malik (who is probably equal to younis Khan)Younis Khan will be one that will step up to become the best batsman in the side, when the time comes and inzi and youhana will retire. Shoaib malik will also step up. The other may be salman butt, but not anytime soon. He is still too young and inexperienced.

.I believe Pakistan missed a trick in this match, and Razzaq should have been moved up the order as he has the experience and temparement to hold the innings together, sort of like inzimam. Their batting line up is far too inexperienced going into this test.

Salman Butt, Yaseer Hameed, Younis Khan, Bazid Khan, Shahid Afridi, Asim Kamal have played a total of

5+15+35+0+17+9 = 81 tests going into this match. that is highly inexperienced.

razzaq himself has only played 35 as well, but he has been around for wat seems an eternity and would have been good up the order.

when will youhana be back? if at alL?

Of course they will. I was not refering to the result but the way the Pakistani team approached batting in a test match.

And yes, the Indian youngsters suffer from the same probblem. At least guys like Yuvraj do.

Interesting...

Chanderpaul pre-2001: 2682 runs @ 40.63, 2x100, 21x50, HS 137*.
Chanderpaul post-2001: 3205 runs @ 56.23, 12x100, 13x50, HS 203*.

According to his profile, Shiv had a piece of floating bone removed from his foot in late 2000; quite possibly that had prevented him from going on to big scores before. No such problems now. :)

Well he could play the "maturest" innings of HIS life Marc. That shouldnt be too difficult to manage considering the innings he has played so far in his life.

A strike rate of between 80 and 90 should suffice :p

When did he switch to his present stance ?

Younis Khan is a far better player than Shoaib Malik. Malik has played 8 tests and averages 37 -- so quite where the impression that he's Pakistan's third best batsman comes from, beats me.

maybe they are talking on potential. But I still rate Younis Khan as among the best youngsters in the Pak side.
