Mark Richardson : Improved ICC ranking not likely without pace - Cricket - NZ Herald News

Interesting. I venemously disagree with the "we need pace to win" because we don't We often bowl sides out cheaply only to collapse in a heap. Typical ****ing batsman is Richardson, blaming the bowlers. :p

I do think more quality quicks would help stop the "oh ten noes, is that a fast b0wler?" at test level. The ones we have bar Bond aren't anywhere near consistent enough to really test them. I've heard Mark Gillespie with a Basin gale at his back is pretty fast and accurate but apart from him we really only have semi-quicks like O'Brien, Arnel and Wagner who can be pacy at times but not consistently.

Anyway, on with the cricket.

Apparently when Tuffey hit that six over long-on last night and Vettori came down the track to have a word, he said "daryl pull ur head in ok"

Even though Tuffey has played some nice shots - that last catch should have been taken. He has also had some scary moments against Kaneria - I don't think he deserves a century.
I am pleased that Tuffey got stranded. I realise that other people worse than him have scored a century. But where possible I think centuries should be handed out to people who look in control of the bowling.
Wouldn't have minded if Mcintosh had've fought his way to three figures however.

Strange choice of words. Centuries are not 'handed out' they are scored and earned.

I guess I feel like the fielding team never hands you one. But the cricket gods can give you that gift of making it to 100 if you earn the privilege. So the actual moment of scoring a century is a gift from the game. But it should only go to those who have earned it.
Hope this doesn't make me sound confused. Basically I agree with you. Except that the actual title "test match centurion" is an honour that the game gives you.

Do we play Australia at Napier?

I really hope not. If Farhart and Tuffey can score well here, and our top order does its usual stuff, then...*facepalm*

Since when was Arnel ever considered pacy? He was really quick as a 19/20 year old but picked up a pretty bad injury and has never been the same since.

Do agree with Rich here though.
