Well done England

Shades of Mumbai about today for me. Expecting a long, close day of Cricket, and getting nothing but.

A victory over Pakistan, depleted or not, should hold us in good stead for our next series, which I believe is somebody quite good

But there is a big difference between a headless chicken like Afridi going after you and Ricky Ponting going after you.

or Gilchrist. He has a habit of belting left arm spinners.

How can Younis Khan be MOM? What was Athers thinking?

He played well but Pak were heavily beaten.
Hmmm

Well done England. What a brilliant performance! Pakistan have to lick their wounds and try to get some pride back on the last test.

Don't worry it's not all bad, we've still got the ODI's coming up where you'll completely own us, unless some miracle occurs.

Anyway, well played England. I expected Pakistan to put up a tougher fight and they really had a chance today.

Excellent team performance.
My MOM would have to be Strauss. Good captaincy and a ton when the chips were down. If a Pakistan player had played a similar innings on the last day they would have won.

Fair to say England are back to 2nd in the world?

I would have gladly accepted a defeat in the ODI's for a Test victory! :)

because there was no obvious bowling candidate on the England side
And Younis Khan was obvious??

As I posted above, it should have gone to Strauss for keeping it all together on the 4th day when it could all have gone wrong.

He scored the most runs in the match, and was only dismissed by a wonder ball and Inzi. Strauss' ton was decent, but i wouldn't say he kept it all together, he put on a great partnership with Tresco but then got out at a bad time.

Goes back to the discussions in the "battle of the test innings" thread. Can an innings still be regarded as highly if the batsman's team went on to lose? I said yes, BUT I agree with Goughy, Strauss should have got it, because Pakistan would probably have gone on to win if he had gone out when Trescothick did

Without doubt, and the ICC will agree :)

2nd place was only on loan anyway:p

Awesome effort by England. I really wanted to see Shoaib, Rana and Asif in this series, but at the same time England were missing Freddy and Simon Jones as well, so both teams were depleted.

At 399-2, Pakistan should never have lost this test, but credit to England, kept the pressure on continously.

I do hate when test matches end early, especially when David Gower mulls over proceedings and keeps referring to Mohammad Asif as Mohammad Sami. No need to talk ******** with Rameez Raja, whose knowledge of Pakistani cricket is sadly lacking, always referring to every cricket as a “one day specialist”.
8-)

Do your interviews with the key players, chat briefly about how good everyone is. Than take the program off the air and stick highlights of last nights Speedway (from **** knows where) on!
