Well even ig Tresocothick is out of the CT, if he can play in the remainder of the current series i'd say pick him even if he is out of form, he's a good enough player to find form back quickly.

But if England see otherwise i say give Joyce/Cook a chance at the top.

Well said. I can't help thinking Trescothick is going to struggle to win back a regular place in our lineup if he misses a sizeable chunk of action.

I also think that if he comes to the realisation that he can no longer tour with England, he will retire from international cricket. He's a big enough man to know that you can't pick and choose which games you play.
I dunno from what i'm gathering Trescothick touring issues just relates to touring India. England ATM can't contemplate leaving Tres out he's too key a player.

If you can find one that's fit, then please tell us who.

Not to mention that Mahmood's last appearance for Lancashire hardly displayed weakness.
Erm..i think it would be pretty hard for ANY bowler in England to end up with as bad a record as Mahmood has atm, it's pathetic.

They can't pick Tresco for these last matches, hes wildly out of form anyway. If he needs a rest, then surely giving him an extra week away from the squad can only be good.

Cook deserves a chance, two solid innings in his previous two ODIs, and if not joyce deserves a chance.

Not for Inzi :p Remember, when he thinks about chasing a target, he thinks about chasing it all by himself, and he could see the ball just fine three days ago when apparently nobody else could.

Seriously though, I think it may have been a case of "what's the worst that could happen?"

Anybody notice that Inzi seemed frustrated talking to Akhtar after hitting the winning runs?
Probably hungry...

Feel sorry for Joyce. Was going to start for England earlier in the summer but after his injury things have suddenly changed. Can not think why considering the situation has not improved.

Collingwood & Dalrymple surely will play, Yardy to come in for Clarke. With the last bowling spot preferable i'd like to see Chapple or Tremlett called up & play but Onions will get a chance, hopefully he does better than what i saw of him for Durham in the domestic ODI's..

I'll have KP at three. Joyce at five, Bell and Cook to open. Mahmood over Onions, just so he can get hit one more time into ODI oblivion.

Don't you then run the risk of having KP in after an over or less?

He certainly isn't in good enough form for that IMO.

Pietersen at 3 is dodgy, too often he will be in the middle in the first few overs which means awful lot of the time he will be out by the time 10 overs have past.

And with him at five we avoid that how exactly? :p

Sure there is a strong possibility of him coming in second ball Friday but I'm more inclined to advocating him as a number three for the future (India and West Indies in mind). With this series pretty much gone now, bit more reasonability could be what he needs. Too good a player to be hiding at number five.

Definately in ODI's you need your best players in early no need to hide KP @ 5, for the CT & WC especially i see a strong case for him batting @ 3 for sure.

Exactly. If the top order is going to fail, he's going to be coming in early anyway. Might as well stroll in at 3 and have a chance to stabilize things.

Hmm Pietersen:

At 6 : 112 runs @ 56
At 5 : 581 runs @ 116.2
At 4 : 521 runs @ 34.73
At 3 : 77 runs @ 77

I really do think that stats tell a story there.

So how come he's been so much more successful when coming in at 5 and being able to play himself in during the "down" period between 20odd and 30 before unleashing an onslaught?

ATM it doesn't really matter how England juggle their batting line-up, because their bowling attack is incapable of defending a target or keeping the target down.

As long as you have to let Rikki Clarke (legend that he is) bowl the 49th over, you can have Kevin Pietersen filling up all five top order batting spots, you still won't stand a chance.
