Well. They are. The Australian press AND a sizeable number of fans are racist. Small minded bigots. Pea brained morons. How much more evidence does one need ? My vote is that ALL countries boycott playing cricket in, and with, Australia until they shape up.

Sounds drastic. Then, just look at Hair's idiocy. To say nothing of Dean Jones' inane comment. If there was ever a time for united outrage it was now.

I cannot believe in this day and age we put of with this crap from these numbskull Aussie Press and fans. Amazing.
Wouldn't suprise me if you have never read an Australian newspaper or spoken to an Australian fan with ignorant comments like that.

He's just a troll, always has been. I remember him saying the exact same things in the Australia in India thread back in 2004. Amazing he's not been banned yet, really.

Any chance the pro-Pakistan/anti-Hair brigade would stop making ridiculous assumptions about something they know nothing about for 5 minutes?
any chance of you stop being a **** ?

Fact that no player has been charged over ball tempering clearly suggests there's no clear cut evidance over who did the ball tempring.

Aha !! At least someone got it right !

Bookmaker Paddy Power paid out the winnings of all those who had bet on England winning AS WELL AS returned the money put on stake by all those who had bet on Pakistan winning or a draw.

Now that's cricket
Well done.

Both Hair, unless he has evidence or saw something that we are nmot yet aware of, as well as the Pakistani team/captain made grave errors and that is what people on either side of this debate need to realise.

The fact that we continue to think one or the other is completely right and the other completely wrong is because of our own pre-conceived notions and inability to look beyond deeply ingrained but misplaced sense of loyalty to our own.
Agreed, both parties are at fault. However, it's in my belief, that Hair's actions are what caused the pakistani's to do what they did. The test series has been going on without many hiccups at all, hardly any controversy etc. Both teams seem good spirited towards each other.

Then out of the blue, Hair decides the ball has been tampered with, and changes the ball. This ball was working well for Pakistan, so they wouldn't be too impressed with that, but more importantly, they have been labelled cheats.

It's like going up to someone and saying to them that their mother is a whore. It's a matter of honour, as Inzamam has said.

Now, if Hair is found to have wrongly accused the Pakistani's, i think a ban is unfair. A fine is good enough, as it's really the Umpire that brought the game into disrepute by making ludicrous calls without substantiating them. He doesn't even know WHO did it.

I think it's a failing of the system that there's no process for umpires to be disciplined. The system is such that the ICC is basically saying that the umpires can do no wrong when everyone knows that they make their fair share of mistakes. Why should it always be the players who have to answer to the authorities? It's like saying that just because someone is a police officer, they are above the law.

By the way, that Metro picture that was published was taken AFTER THE BALL WAS CHANGED, and it was Shahid Nazir holding the ball. That's what the agency that took the picture is stating. Plus, as discussed already, the pic doesn't really prove anything anyway. Metro doing tabloid journalism. They should be printing an apology tomorrow. Goto www.ppauk.com, click on "Editorial Use" and then search for "The Oval". That would bring up a list of photos, including the one in question here with the below description. The description clearly states it was after the ball had already been changed:

"CONTAVERSEY OVER BALL TAMPERING BY PAKISTAN AS PAKISTAN'S SHAHID NAZIR PREPARES TO BOWL AFTER THE INCIDENT - ENGLAND V PAKISTAN - 4TH NPOWER TEST - PHOTO mandatory by-line: Phil Mingo/Pinnacle - Photo Agency UK Tel: +44(0)1363 881025 - Mobile:0797 1270 681 - VAT Reg No: 768 6958 48 - 20/08/2006 - THE FOURTH TEST - THE BRIT OVAL, LONDON, ENGLAND"
So they kept on cheating ? :P

Slightly bizarre comments from Imran Khan on Sky Sports News. He reckons that Pakistan should consider taking legal action against the umpires for defamation. He should know that this wouldn't stand up in court and in fact could result in a counter claim against them for accusing him of failing to be impartial when umpiring matches involving Pakistan.
Imran also said that they should have stayed and continued playing because they were in a winning position and then made the protest. But surely the fact that they were prepared to jeopardise a winning position on a point of principle makes their case look stronger?

Despite the fact that 3 umpires showed an incredible lack of awareness to the commercial and political ramifications of their actions, Pakistan should be universally condemned for their actions.

What a bunch of whinging children!

They're winning the game but decide to forfeit because a decision goes against them that did nothing more than cost them 5 runs.

I'd have no problem if the ICC bans them for the forseeable future as Pakistan cricket and sportsmanship appear to be mutually exclusive terms.

Trust you to miss the point. No one cares about the 5 runs. It's the allegation of cheating that they reacted to. Understand?

Nothing he says should be taken seriously - in my experience, he is simply a self-serving hypocrite

How many cricketers or teams have felt that they were hardly done by umpires?

Answer: just about everyone that's ever played the game

How many test teams have forfeited a test?

Answer: One

Understand?

That's basically what you said in your first post in different words. What's your point?

The ball was hit for six numerous times, hit for four etc. etc. Anything could have happened to it, to make it LOOK tampered. Heck, the ball may have even been faulty.
"However, the umpires are trained to detect the difference where possible, and Pakistan's claim that the ball had been damaged by being hit to the boundary - and for six - is not entirely credible.

The ball in question had not been hit for four during the previous three overs, and was never hit for six.

That is the STUPIDEST thing ever. Do you even play cricket? Have you seen a real cricket ball before?

There have been times when i've been bowling, and been hit for six (happens often might i add)< and the ball returns to me looking like a totally different ball. There is deep scratches occasionally, dampness or whatever.

Pieterson hit a fair few sixes, chances are it hit concrete a few times, the advertising boards are made of steel, and there's so many other things it could have hit. Even the helmet grill of a batsman would leave a different mark.

There is no way to 'train' someone to distinguish between a deliberately tampered ball, and a ball that has been hit around the park and hitting other things in the mean time.
Do you even know which period of the match the entire issue revolved around ?

I was refering to the section where Inzy asks if he can see the ball, and is refused by Hair - seems utterly nonsensical.
How was Hair supposed to show him the ball when it happened to be in the possession of the match referee ?

5 Runs .. are nothing. It was about respect not winning or losing as inzi suggested in his interview earlier.

That people are trying to defend the indefensible.

Cricket is an incredibly simple game.

2 teams of 11 players bat, bowl and field.

They try to score more runs than the opposition.

The game is adjudicated by umpires.

On the field, their word is final.

If the attitude is "when things go against us, we wont play" then do everyone a favour and go away.
