Two tests in which there was always going to be a draw, always.

One test when Asif was clearly not the bowler he is now.

Asif still has a lot to prove, definitely, but having very few tests experience didn't stop people from claiming Pietersen was the messiah after one series.

The thing about Asif is, he had a reputation BEFORE this test, and all he has done is live up to it. He hasn't built it after this test, he's just meeting the expectations all the time. He's a gun, and I'd expect he'd walk into the England team, even with only 5 tests behind him. I'd take him over Steve "I bowl well once every year, when I get the right conditions" Harmison, at the moment.
Well said Mate.

Asif is to Shoaib (potentially) as what McGrath is to Lee. Oh and Harmison's scale of absoutely divine to downright awful must be the longest in cricket history - such is his inconsistency.

I think you are overestimating Asif's abilities a bit. Let him play 10-15 tests before comparing him with McGrath. The greater the expecations, the larger will the disappointment be when he fails to perform. Shoaib is still comfortably Pakistan's best bowler.

I guess he's enigmatic because the way he bowled at Old Trafford was so supremely good, yet at others times he's so shockingly bad.
I didn't see all of the OT test, but I didn't think Harmison bowled that well. Obviously he took plenty of wickets and bowled some good deliveries, but he also bowled some absolute crap at times and was all over the place in more than one spell. Certainly didn't fill one with hope for a dominant future.

Pakistan looking like they might be a real force in these one-dayers. Is an attack of Ahktar - Naved - Asif - Afridi - Malik possible? Maybe a bit of spin from Hafeez as well. My knowledge of recent Pakistan lineups in ODIs is poor, but I reckon it might look something like this:

1 Kamran Akmal
2 Mohammad Hafeez
3 Shoaib Malik
4 Mohammad Yousuf
5 Inzamam-ul-Haq
6 Younis Khan
7 Abdul Razzaq
8 Shahid Afridi
9 Naved-ul-Hasan
10 Shoaib Akhtar
11 Mohammad Asif

Plenty of batting there, with four seamers and three spinners.

Good to see Harmison coming back well after a horrific spell, i expect England will bat better but in the end Pakistan should still come out victorious.

Malik will open alongside Hafeez or Farhat and Akmal should bat down the order with Younis coming in at one-down. Besides that, spot on ... and yeah, that team is quite strong.
