If we're messing with the attack to try and work with Indian conditions I'm leaving Woakes out, so I don't think 6 bowlers is viable anyway.

Would probably be my team in India. Long batting line up, 2 spinners (plus Root and Borthwick) and 4 seamers.

In India you need 3 seamers and 2 spinners, Bairstow and then your 5 best batsmen, so something like:

Cook
Hales
Root
Vince
Ballance
Bairstow
Ali
Woakes
Rashid
Broad
Anderson

Obviously our top 5 is up for debate, but I think that those top 6 batsmen are the best 6 batsmen in England, and then we've also picked our best 5 bowlers for India with a strong lower order.

Vince and Ballance are the only question marks. I think Ballance will get runs in India but I also think Australia will rip his technique apart next time he faces them. On the basis that you pick a team to win a series I'd go with him. Vince has been really unconvincing and for me Stokes is more likely to score big runs. I suspect Vince will be given one last chance in the next test and will need a big score significantly over 50 to get on the tour. 1 and 2 are nailed on I think, although Hales is a worry and has only really managed to score runs against a weak Sri Lankan side and will need a good tour. I'd be shocked if 6 - 11 aren't as you suggest.

Had a little dig and the best I can find is Flower's 1045 runs from 9 tests in 2000. Gilchrist's best is 870 in 2001.

Sangakkara scored 1114 in 2004 but only kept for 5 tests out of 11.
Nice, I knew you would find out :thumbs_up . Don't know how I forgot Sanga and Flower. Hope JB goes on to be the top Test run scorer for the year and becomes the first keeper to do it, obviously having a lot of matches helps but soring 850 runs in 9 matches is great for any batsman, also he's had 2 innings less then his closest rival (Root).

Who do everyone think will be the top Test run scorer this year? Here's the current leaders Cricket Records | Records | 2016 | Test matches | Most runs | ESPN Cricinfo

It's bound to be an Englishman due to sheer volume of cricket. 17 Tests for the year if I'm not mistaken.

Having said that, India have a fair few scheduled as well.

KW also has another 9 Tests plus the rest of his current innings, but yeh surely its got to be an Englishman and with Cook's record in Asia I'll go for him.

Cook's now 5364 runs behind.... Anyone aware of any bookies offering odds on him going passed Sachin?

Shame but bar a Stuart Broad wrecking ball spell, this is heading for a near certain draw me thinks.

Neither side is going risk anything pushing for the win so I fully expect to hear lots of whingeing from the comms and neutrals re declaration time........cos I'll guarantee it will come later than those not invested will want it.

Think Wood might be a better option than Woakes if we do actually go with four seamers (including Stokes) in Bangladesh/India.
