Wyllie is a different player tbf, he specifically seems to get tied down really easily which was always the question mark on him coming in because he's a naturally cautious player. Whereas Konstas and Dixon seem to be natural stroke makers which I personally think is much more promising at that U19 level
I've seen some scepticism that Dixon's technique will be good enough. OTOH if he can maybe BazBall it then it mightn't matter.

Ah cmon man. This wicket is not as flat as it’s made out to be -I thought Marnus in particular batted quite well today, only undone by a good nut. I agree there’s a little bit of lack of depth with the batters - however Green will come good, and we will find players. Imagine thinking Marnus would be a test player 5 years ago?
I'm not saying the deck is flat and we've underperformed here, more just worried that usmans gone soon, marnus and smith have been out of touch for a while and the guys on the bench bar green don't really inspire confidence. Hardies promising and mcsweeney/Davies could be good but none of those guys strike me as test match top 4 bats.

It's not a whitewash yet.

We'll still beat almost every team who tours here. But India will be tough, and if England discover some good batsmen they could mount a challenge too - and I don't see us winning an away Ashes having blown two good chances*. The batting is going to be a huge problem, especially the openers - which is why I'm not averse to moving Head up and having him play Warner's role. It's a better idea than Green opening.

We have some batting talent (including Green) but it's nowhere near as much as I'd like and it will take a while to gell. I'm not worried about the bowling, except that replacements might not be made until after they're due. The spin bowling stocks in particular are looking better than they have for many years.

*with Joel Wilson's help both times
also no they couldn’t, they don’t have the right bowlers

You could have said that in 10/11 though - but on the other hand they got perfect conditions last Aus Ashes and sucked. If they do actually mature into test class bowlers, I think the likes of Tongue and Atkinson will be better equipped in our conditions than your skiddy Woakes-type swing bowlers.

now a misfield from head.

said it before, aus dont look like the dominant team they used to.

i guess cuz pre-covid pitches were much flatter and didnt have so much movement for the seamers+ players are aging.

i knew that the scg hasnt actually spun recently but i didn’t realise lyon’s record here was so dogwater, 45 at only 41 for someone who’s done so well all across the country!!
The SCG hasn't spun much since they relaid the pitch in 2002 and there hasn't been any bounce for Lyon to work with. It's actually been the worst venue for spin bowling here recently, party because it's been the worst venue for bowling full stop.

Didn’t they lose to both SA and India at home pre-covid?

also ayub doing well to clown me after i said they’d do well to have imam in
If im not mistaken, cummins hasn't been able to get rishab pant out even once
so saim being an aggressive left hander is ideal for pakistan.

starc also bowls many loose deliveries in between rippers that need to be cashed on, which is what aggressive batsmen like saim and rishab pant usually do

This seems drier than usual recent decks here. There should be a bit of up and down in it tomorrow and day 5.
There’s alsrwady decent rough but he isn’t prepared to dump it into it so far for whatever reason

Great to see a doggo at the ground in those pics

Warner is 37 and is being made to walk the plank.
Usman is….37. How much longer will he go on for?
He’s played a stack less than Warner and has been more productive the past two years than any time in his career though. No doibt he’ll fade away rapidly when age catches up with him but at this point you’d have to think he’s got at least another 12 to 18 months in him
