So has anyone commented on just how ridiculous this NZ XI is? Setting aside playing 3 specialist bowlers and having Santner batting at 9, Rachin at 3? I mean don't get me wrong, if he's playing that's where he should be batting. But Stead has spent the entire year mucking about with him at 7 or 8 in the order, before deciding to trial him at number 3 for the first time at the biggest event in the cricketing calendar.

The guy has no ****ing clue how to develop and promote talent. He's been coasting on the greatness of a handful of senior players and a couple of happy surprises.
He had his eleven-column spreadsheet then someone said Ravindra could both be a spinner and the Williamson replacement. That blew his mind, so when he selected the side he forgot they already had the all-rounder at 3 and selected Neesham too.

Now he'll forget about Ravindra because Williamson replaces him, peer over the side and see it is clearly a bowler light now, and completely forget they've batted Ravindra at 7 for ages and play Neesham the rest of the tournament. And everyone salutes his astute coaching.

Would love to see Conway pull out the haka.

Although Wagner doing it for the test team would be genuinely scary.

A rematch between the finalists at the last WC, opening game....and nobody except a few NZ and England fans and the groundsmans family show up.

Dreadfully embarrassing stuff, obviously tickets are way, way overpriced - or more likely 'cricket' as we know it is dead in India, and only T20 and India matches will draw anyone. When people said - and still say - that T20 will kill cricket this was exactly what they meant. Which is a tragedy because India was known for it's passion for cricket. T20 may be something that grew out of cricket but it isn't the genuinely fair contest between bat and ball that authentic cricket should be.
Yeah...I'm aware you can be a cynical bastard but this is not a good look for a big tournament, with a 130k stadium to have about 150 people there.

I don't know the area, the population, anything about Ahmedabad but this is poor.

NZ look really flat out there. I don't know if it's the heat or what, but this could get ugly.

Can't see any lies here.

It's very weird to leave out Sodhi for Neesham as the fourth bowler. Only twelve to choose from, but serves us right for taking two injured players into the tournament.

So we'll have a heap of batting to chase the 360 England set.

These are two of the bigger teams in the opening game - what's going to happen when Netherlands play Bangladesh for example?
