Should've been Woakes imo.
Way we're going, may see him soon.
Can understand holding Buttler back and there's the right hand left hand thing but Mo being so crap nullifies the tactic.
Needed someone who can actually build an innings. Ali can score quick runs but never likely to stick around these days. Would have preferred Livingstone coming in if they wanted to hold Jos back. (I wouldn't have held him back, not like there was a fierce bowling spell to shield him from.)

Would bring Boult back for an over or two here to see if he can put some pressure on Buttler. Bowled dross early on but still a better bet than Rachin.

Bit underwhelming that this is the opener to a major competition and the ground is not even half full. Doesn't exactly give it that "big deal" feel.

The BCCI would have been better off arranging for the tickets to be given away. It gets the tournament off to a chilling start to play the opening game in a virtually empty colosseum. Bishop saying "still a big tournament" in commentary....it's on their minds; you don't have to say it if it is self evident. This match may be a watershed moment...it's not looking good for ODI cricket. Sad times because I grew up in a time when ODI cricket was huge.

Hardly a false shot from Root so far and going at nearly a strike rate of 100. Good knock currently. Keep going. This is what England need most from him in ODIs which is an area he has generally struggled in. Big run-a-ball scores when the rest of the top order fail.

Yeah. It was a fine tactic if Mo could bat. But he can't.

Santner has one of the world’s ugliest bowling actions but he’s been really good here
I guess I've been watching Santner so long I've stopped noticing, but it is a godawful action. It does allow him to watch what the batter's doing up until the last moment of delivery though.
