Have to admit, it's a pretty good move publicity wise by Gold Coast franchise. There'll definitely be interest from rugby league fans to see how he makes the transition, plus the extra exposure it will give them in that market in terms of coverage on the news and that. Be interesting to see what sort of money he ends up on, although its pretty much all rumour and innuendo in AFL. Could well pay for himself, though.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes. He's a natural athlete, and physically has all the tools to play midfield. It's a lot easier to teach a bloke how to kick and handball than it is to teach them the natural physical attributes that Hunt has.

The more i think about it the more im sceptical...

The theory is he will play Union late this season and early next season, So that would mean in the space of about 18 months he will have played 3 different codes of footy...

IMO if he was serious about AFL then he would be forgetting Union to focus on upskilly for his AFL career...

Something inside me says that this will fall apart before it goes ahead...

Would he make more money playing Aussie Rules? Has he any form of background in the game? Having the physical gifts is fine but learning the game so late in his career is always going to be a harder transitiion, especially with regards to his grasp on reading the game amongst other intagibles.

Said in the article that he played it as a schoolboy, and was looked upon as a prospect by local recruiters. Often easier to get drafted from the development states, more rookie list spots open for those players.

Gold Coast has a larger salary cap than the other clubs to allow recruiting, and will generally have a lot of kids who won't command too much early on. So I'd imagine that there's a fair chance that he'll get on a front loaded contract, paying him big bucks early on and lessening in the later years of a contract, to create room for the increasing price that the kids will demand as they get better and their market value rises.

Just said on the news that the AFL actually targetted him, and they are paying the majority of his contract. The GC are chipping in a little... Seems as though its been in the pipeline for a few weeks, even hints of training sessions with Nathan Buckley and some other guy who assessed his ability before the contract was signed..

Its a shame for the Broncos as he was potentially and all time great for us, could have played 300 games, been a premiership winning captain etc... Something went wrong somewhere though.
The game will get over it though, we haven't been affected by losing Gasnier, SBW, Tuqiri, Sailor, Rogers etc... Also even in the short term for the Broncos we have a good replacement in Josh Hoffman.

The same Josh Hoffman who got out leaped by Steve Price and the same one on Friday night who basically stood there when Preston Campbell put a kick along the ground and Scott Prince ran through the gap and scored next to the posts?

Yeh that one. Also the same Josh Hoffman that has killed it in pretty much every first grade game hes played including a great length of the field try in his debut game.

Since clapo is a sick boy:

Dragons vs Storm
Titans vs Cowboys
Raiders vs Broncos
Panthers vs Warriors
Knights vs Roosters
Sharks vs Eels
Rabbitohs vs Bulldogs
Tigers vs Sea Eagles

Somehow this may not be a good week for me.

BTW Melbourne's Steve Turner has joined the Bulldogs to replace Hazem El Masri.

Feel a little bit vindicated now after Smiteh laughed at me for suggesting Falou would more likely be targeted by the AFL than Union. But good to see he's laughing still...

This Hunt thing is pretty crazy. Not sure if it will work. I think his skill base is fine and obviously his tackling technique will be above the league's standard, however the two areas he would really need to brush up on are: endurance running (this is more important than speed, not everyone on the team needs to be usain bolt) and quick disposal.

endurance running; will require lots and lots of 10k runs and he also may need to slightly alter his body shape (on second thaughts it may be perfect already, he's hardly built like micheal crocker or paul gallen)

quick disposal; this one will require many many training sessions and as many games as possible to get right.

While I'm still very sceptical that it will work, I think that Hunt would be one of the best 5 canditates in the NRL to give it a crack.

KHunt = Mal Micheal, Mark II, lol no seriously I have no idea how good he'll become and in what position.

Good on him for trying something different, he's only 22, definitely has time on his side.

Looks like Hunt wants to make his own mark. Have to be careful that he doesn't fall behind in his skills.
