Probably shows how little the World Cup actually means to players, considering Gasiner, Crocker and Buderus all left too.
Buderus and Crocker are eligible actually, Gasnier isnt because his French season starts during the World Cup. The 40 man Australian squad for the cup is announced this week and Buderus has been hold he will be in it.

Thought there was talk of omitting them based purely on the fact their leaving and shouldnt be 'rewarded' with a birth in the world cup...

On the world cup, is Luke Ricketson playing for Ireland again?

Pretty sure that will be the case with Crocker, howeve given Buderus' service etc... to the game he will be named as backup hooker in the 40 and most likely get picked in the final squad should injury/suspension get to Cam Smith.

Ah i see, fair enough.

But seriously, remember the last one where Tuquiri and Ricketson played for Fiji and Ireland, then later played for Australia when the cup was over. If something like that happens this time around it is confirmed as one of the biggest farces on the international sports calendar.

Same rules apply this time around, if anyone hasn't played for Australia, England or New Zealand they can play for any other side and then after the WC still play for top three sides. Technically people can still do a Tonie Carroll and play New Zealand and then for Australia later. The IRL have a rule that you can change your international preference once in your career.

From what I've read Vagana is going to turn out for Samoa, so it's the same process in reverse given he's played loadsa times for NZ over the years.

Are we going to have another Lebanese team made up of players who have never set foot in Lebanon?
Heck, I doubt Lebanon are competing!

IRL rules say that decent (ie. Monaghan's, MacDougall's and any NZer/Karmichael/Mason/Hayne) rules apply, so therefore some players aren't cheating.

Anyway, SBW had no right to walk out of that contract. Gasiner did, but he didn't. Should let him get away with it, because he's not welcome here.

Players are allowed to play for a country that they qualify via the grandparent rule. E.g the Monaghan brothers are eligible for Scotland etc... Also if you have played international league before, like the Vagana case you can play for a different country if you havent played for another during the qualifying process. As Australia, NZ and England automatically qualified their players who dont picked can basically play for anyone they are eligible for. I think even Peter Wallace can play for Scotland and not harm his future NSW and Australian chances. Jarryd Hayne is another, even though he played for Aus in the centernary test, in the off chance he isnt our squad he can turn out for Samoa or Tonga, (not sure which one).

Not as bad as I was expecting then. Gould just came across as a **** like he always does.
Yeah, but he shouldn't be gagged from making comments, which is what Nine has apparently done to him re. the Footy Show segment on Thursday night when he was supposed to be in a discussion with Gallop and others.
