Sometimes I wish I actually was one, not just a supporter.
Can't say I've ever met a neutral (ie someone who doesn't actually hail from NSW or QLD) who has supported the Blues. I can generally understand it, given that most people back the underdog when they have no real commitment to either side, but in recent times it's been hard to call QLD the underdogs.

My friends all support NSW, always braged about it too when they won (for the whole year), haven't heard a word about SoO from them in the last three years now.

The second try wouldn't have been stopped by Darren Glass, let alone Luke Rooney. My point is about the first try. Quinn didn't drop that ball for just any old reason; watch the footage again. He dropped it because he wasn't focussed on the ball and was worrying about Folau running at him whilst stationary. He knew he couldn't compete.

Whilst I know Rooney has in flaws and sometimes punches under his weight, his height is just a fact of life and if there's anyone around to jump at Folau in attack and defense on the wing, it should be him. Or even perhaps Monaghan.
Yeah no doubt it makes a difference and if you look back at the wingers we selected to play against Tuquri. There was a reason why we picked guys like Moody, De Vere, Lewis and Rooney. Purely just to combat the height of Tuquri. I wouldn't be surprised if NSW don't start going down the same policy, but I hope they go for Lawrance not Rooney (who will probably be in England next season anyway).

Fuuuuuuuck yeah. Love Origin. NSW had most of the go-forward but Queensland were so desperate in defence...especially from the kick. Nothing beats that Maroon spirit.

PS. It wasn't my intention to avoid the filter. It just kind of happened that way.

Nah it wasn't. I paused it with the recorder (parents got one today, (face)) on both where it left the hands and where it hit his chest, at best was maybe half a foot forward, but that's nothing in the modern game and a horrible time to call a forward pass on a ball that's as forward as 50% of the passes per round.
Yeah I still don't think the ball went forward. Very harsh call considering the situation of that game. I thought there were two or three Blues forward passes that weren't picked up but I don't think that balances it out because the one they did call was at such an important moment

Anthony Quinn: wtf? Hopefully he'll never wear the blue jumper again, especially with the mental edge Folau gained on him tonight. Gonna start a "Luke Rooney for Origin regardless of his form." campaign, maybs someone will jump on board.

Paul Gallen: you're a ****ing douche. What the **** was with all these ridiculous penalties? If he didn't have arms the size of my torso and a temper lower than Mike Tyson I'd track him down and throw rocks at him from afar

Mitchell Pearce: I thought he looked calm and collected, and I think he certainly has a future in the blue #7. I don't think Anasta being out of the loop in the first half helped him. He defended well and kicked well from his own half, though his attacking kicking left a bit to be desired. Anasta does most of that for the Roosters anyway.
Awta. Awta. Awta.

How good was it to see a bit of passion tonight. Wanted a brouhaha to break out properly but that's just about the best we get these days. Love Thurston when he's fired up. Really wears his heart on his sleeve.

What a dummy from JT at the end- that's his signature. And that try from Folau, both the take and the put down, was out of this world. I also thought Slats easily had his best game for a couple of years, at club or Origin level. The only disappointing aspect was that they didn't, to my knowledge, pour a huge drum of Gatorade over the winning coach after fulltime, as is traditional.

Easily the best Origin this year, and maybe for several years.

Thought the forwards largely cancelled each other out tbh. Except for Gallen - he was crap. Big wrap for Ben Cross - thought he had a really solid game.

In the end Qld won coz of their class. The two sides were as committed as each other, but in the end a copule of real quality plays from the Minto boy Folau and Thurston did the trick.

Gidley showed he's a better player than Stewart at Origin level - not a slag at Stewart, but I thought Gidley was immense. Rather than replace Buderus in the 2nd half, I'd have liked to see Anasta to lock for Gallen, Gidley to 5/8 and Stewart to fullback. Gallen's temperament was really shown up last night.

The difference between the teams was summed up with about 4 minutes to go. NSW got possession about 40 out from their own line. They're trailing by 6 with little time left, and we got 4 hit ups and a cross field bomb. Just not creative enough - Anasta not up to Origin - can categorically say it this time because the excuse of not getting space from his forwards is not available on this occasion. Pearce finding his way in his first game.

And why did most of our cross field kicks got to Quinn instead of Hayne? Hayne can jump nearly as good as Folau, Quinn just can't.

Anyway, well done to both sides - really good game. And well done to Buderus on a top rep career.

Love JT, love Billy, love Petro, all living legends, what great fighting spirit from the boys yet again. Thought we were screwed when Princey went off but our defence was immense.

Titans season over too.

Out of interest, a contest for a bomb between Israel Folau and Christian Inu when both have a running shot at the ball would be a sight to behold.

don't think anyone in the game could out leap Folau

Krisnan TBH.

And plays for your club!
Haha was gonna say exactly the same thing.
Look, I'm still in a funk after last night.

Dunno why I said Christian - must have been thinking about his religious convictions!!!!

Out of interest, does anyone else here think that if Qld were to have a serious injury (and you don't wish that on anyone) then they were better equipped to deal with the loss of Prince than almost any other player, given Thurston's brilliance, Hunt's diversity and a ready made fullback on the bench in Slater?

Fair point I guess, we would have lost a lot of attacking weapons if we even lost any of the outside backs (Tate aside). In a way that theory has the most merit as they trained for all of Origin 1 and played the match in game 1 with that exactly set up of Thurston 7, Hunt 6 and Slater 1.

Also worth noting that was easily Slater's best ever performance in rep footy.

It's funny how the trophy tends to follow the team with the better halves. Since JT has come on the scene, Qld have been dominant - along with Lockyer at pivot. By contrast, while Lockyer was at fullback and we didn't really have a banker at halfback, we struggled to jag a Series victory. Even going back earlier, NSW has Johns, Daley, Fittler and Co, while we never really had a settled pivot or, before 1999, a great halfback like Langer.

Very true. I was only thinking last night what a Johns, Daley, Sterling or Kenny might have done with the space the NSW forwards got. Not that they were utterly dominant, just that the halves can't say their forwards were bashed up. They had at least parity onthis occasion.

Was utterly shocked that Buderus was taken off when he was. Seemed a case to me that "oh we have Brett Stewart on the bench, he has to get on the field at some stage". If I was NSW coach I would have left Buderus and Gidley out there and Stewart wouldnt have gotten on the field. I think they were still making plenty of in roads around the ruck and points were coming. Killed the game for NSW.
