Nah, the Wing hit was fine. That's footy. Happens all the time without players getting hurt. Wingy was just unlucky that his body was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's contact sport, this stuff happens, the player was still in motion so...Nothing wrong there.

Great win though, slack last 20 minutes but other than that a wonderful way to start the season. Can't afford to snooze like we did in our other matches though...sides better than Souffs will make us pay.

Nothing wrong with drilling a player who was clearly tackled/held/wasn't going anywhere in vulnerable position... Nah, of course not.

He wasn't held, he was still moving and the referee hadn't called him held. If he was held there would've been a penalty. He was fair game. My point is, these tackles happen in every game and no one says anything. Someone gets injured and all of a sudden it's "cheap". Double standards IMO.

Souths coach Jason Taylor called it a deliberate cheap shot and Wing revealed the tactic had been coached at the Roosters since 2002.
But the halfback said he'd never thought it was aimed at injuring a player and doubted the act was premeditated.

"We started it at the Roosters. It's an interesting tactic and it worked I guess but I think that's more to try and drive a player back than put a cheap shot on him," said Wing.

"If you can hold someone up and get a third man in and drive them back, it's a good tackle.

"I'm sure that they probably wanted to put a little extra into each tackle I was in ... If I was in the same position I probably would have done the same thing.

"It's just unlucky on my behalf."

Spot on Wingy. Words of wisdom there.

There was NO chance of Wing getting a pass away, or continuing his run from the position he was in when Brown clobbered him in the back. Who cares if the ref hasn't called held, the play was as good as over. It's cheap even when they don't get hurt, unfortunately for Wing though, he did.

As Wing said, the third man in while the others have him held is a tactic often used by the Roosters, and many sides for that matter. That's simply what this was a case of. They had Wing held up, but not to the point where he was 'held' and the third man was trying to drive him back. Unfortunately for Wing, he was not in a great position in the tackle and was injured. That's footy.

As long as people who call it cheap will call a 'third man in' tackle cheap whenever the player doesn't get injured as well, that's fine.

It didn't look great and we'll never know if it was an act to try and take Wing out of the game, but the bottom line is that its legal and there's nothing in the rules to stop it happening again...

Yeah that's the bottom line. Still a cheap shot and I don't like seeing it, but it's going to happen. Couldn't happened to a cheekier **** anyway.

Scott Prince > Thurston as a halfback.

Cheap shot on Wing as well, was a shocker.
Yeah agree. Prince is a gun.

Went to the game at Skilled Park. It is a fantastic stadium, has wonderful atmosphere.

Cowboys' defence was non existent and Thurston was about the only one who turned up for them.

Graham turned up for them...in attack. He's a machine when the cowboys have the ball, can't defend to save himself though.

3/7 so far this weekend, always seems to happen when Manly lose.

Man we played crap last night. I didn't think we would miss Monnas and Hick that much. Lyon and Ballin were pretty good in general play, but our last tackle option was useless. So bloody easy to read. Our defence on the fringes at times was woeful as well for most of match.

Sharks were much better either, was one of dullest games I have been to in a while. Mind you I reckon Seymour has potential at 5/8, if Kimmorley ever gives him the ball. Their defence was good for most of match. But I reckon they lack of real try scorer or line breaker. Will be able to shut a lot of sides out, but wont be able to score a lot of points.

Benji looks like he might be out for the season, full knee reco might be required. How soon till SBW is out for season now?

yer i ma 5/7 so not a bad start!
Same.

I'm very excited by the Lockyer/Wallace combination this season. Lockyer just seemed to have so much freedom today (like he does when he plays with Thurston in Origin). Wallace wasn't afraid to take the ball and try things and not always rely on Lockyer, possibly one of the reasons Lockyer came off the bench, so Wallace wasn't looking to him early.

My only disapointment of the game was that my $5 bet on Hodges being first try scorer went down the drain.
