143kph. Juiced speed guns but that's still very quick from Smith. Pick him against England please.
There’s definitely a noticeable dropoff in quality from what we’re used to seeing. This format especially isn’t kind to teams with unreliable or makeshift spinners (don’t know why Santner insisted on bowling them through, though he must have wanted to prevent Smith from being completely in the firing line). The batting also couldn’t get going against SL’s slow bowling after that opening stand. Chapman and Phillips need to do a lot more heavy lifting.Well play Lanka, although jeez that's as weak a NZ team that I've seen for ages. Save Santner & Phillips (and possibly Young), it felt closer to a NZ C side than NZ B.
I think it's more a byproduct of Blundell being more average at 6, and too often GP has ended up batting with the tail - and most think he's a far better batsman than having to do that regularly rather getting opportunities to build an innings. Eventually I think he should be our number 5 (Head/Baz-esque) once Mitchell goes. But also if Hay/Chu end up taking the gloves in the test side, 7 would be much better for them so GP can go up anyway.GP has been a bit disappointing for a while batting wise. Love the guys attitude but sometimes recently he has looked all at sea against spin tbh. Some are wanting him to bat 6 in test cricket as well…maybe the feeling is he’ll do quite well on NZ tracks. A test top score of 87 against the Bangas & averaging in the 20’s against the better sides, but it is early days. I’d like him to be a bit more consistent across all formats with the bat.
Yep, completely agree with all this. GP hasn't had enough opportunities in Tests, and it's a disaster having to bat with our gung-ho tail a lot of the timeI think it's more a byproduct of Blundell being more average at 6, and too often GP has ended up batting with the tail - and most think he's a far better batsman than having to do that regularly rather getting opportunities to build an innings. GP is a true box-office cricketer imo, should be first name on the team sheet in all 3 formats.
His wicket keeping was almost as well regarded as his bowling when you first said that lol.I see GP's value has risen significantly since I called him a no-rounder
Best part is I later replaced him with Santner in the thread who ended up being the top wicket taker for NZHis wicket keeping was almost as well regarded as his bowling when you first said that lol.
Kind of agree with this. I keep waiting for him to play that one innings which makes me think 'yep, this guy's got it'.I like Phillips as much as the next guy (actually I think I used to like him less but I’ve caught up) but he hasn’t really put it all together yet with the bat and I’m not 100% sure he’s equipped to do so. Still not sure if it’s all gonna click for him with the bat, or if he’s just gonna become more and more a balanced all-rounder.
