Hopes over MacGill... When was MacGill ever in contention?? Why would MacGill be in contention for a BATTING ALL-ROUNDER spot??
Since when do we need another all rounder? There is Watson, Symonds, Clarke, Katich, and Lee as a youngster was a batter but when he discovered he can bowl better he stopped practicing. All these players can both bat and bowl. And don't forget that Gillespie and McGrath are in there best from with the bat.

But after checking a few stats I can see why Hopes was chosing over McGill, the selectors were trying to get another slower bowler in the Australian Sqaud thats why McGill was in the picture but they opted for a good slower bowler that can also Bat.

I read a article in the paper down here in Tassie about that a few selectors kiced up a fuss over it but obviously the other selectors were going for someone who can also bat.

Gillespie and MCgrath bat?????????????????

Hopes is not a slower bowler (he bowls McGrath pace, maybe a bit less)

I reckon the guy hard done by is Damien Wright. That guy is a talent who always seems to be overlooked.

I, for one, agree with Mark Waugh.

James Hopes ia an INCREDIBLY ordinary talent.

Military medium bowler, average bat.

If he is the future of Australian cricket, then I despair!

Worth making mention of Dan Vettori's bowling if it hasn't already been done so at length.

Aus v. NZ 2005:
Vettori - 20 overs @ 3.20 rpo
Rest of NZ - 80 overs @ 6.04 rpo

Not to mention his batting. :)

why on earth did Flem decide to field after winning the toss???????

IMO it not only shows a lack of confidence in the batting, but also plays into AUS preference.........and on presumably the best / most consistant domestic batting surface!!!!!

NZL bowling isn't performing well enough to restrict AUS without the benefit of a decent target to create extra pressure, likewise the fielding also works best when defending a target..............

i found it funny how fleming said he wasn't going to talk about australia in post-match conferences after the first game, and yet in the post-match of this game he did talk about them !!

didn't they learn anything off bob woolmer? bob was so caught up with umpiring in australia that he clearly didn't have his mind fully on his job. fleming and bracewall are so busy trying to claim every little thing that australia does as a 'tactic' of ours and whinging about us that they, too, are struggling against us. Teams are always going to struggle to beat Australia if they concentrate on australia too much and not enough on themselves. Let's see if England are smart enough to learn this...

That's the exact opposite of what I think.

Fleming thinks our batting is our strength, and we should chase. You can't blame him, we have won such a high % of our games batting second. Whether we bnowled first or second, we would still have lost the match because our bowling was so inaccurate.

I dont think u can blame our batters for the last loss.. althou sinclair should be dropped.. but no other batters

It was our bowlers who lost the game for us... our batters were always under extreme pressure due to the shitty bowling..

Tuffy - Drop him for.... well any fast bowler
Wilson - Drop him for andre adams
Sinclair - Drop him for marshall

The guy hasn't even played a game and everyone is already baging him. If he plays and gets smacked around and doesn't score any runs then bag him all u want, but u have to give the guy a chance. His form in the ING Cup as has been as good as anyone with bat and ball. Hopes was picked as a medium pace all rounder and apart from Watson his is the best pace all rounder in the country. I'm sure when Watson starts bowling again he probably will get drop but he deserves to be in the squad as the No 2 All Rounder.

Why don't they bring in Wiseman he looks allot better bowler then any of the other quicks in New Zealand. Consider Vettori is the only bowler that has troubled Australia it sound good to me. It still would be a fairly balanced attack with 3 quicks and 2 spinners.

Adams recalled after a good run in the domestic game currently being held. He got 53 off 58 deliveries. Papps has been called up and should replace Sinclair.

Papps in for Sinclair is the only change they've made. Very conservative approach from the selectors. I think Aldridge should have come in for Tuffey who is embarrassingly poor at the moment.

Tuffey needs to go back to bowling school IMO. They should have bought in Hamilton. My eleven would be

Astle
Fleming
H.Marshall
McMillan
J. Marshall
Cairns
McCullum
Vettori
Wilson
Mills
Hamilton

You cant replace Wilson after one poor game. It is hypicritical of the selectors if they were to do so

Gillespie got a few 50's during the summer, and has improved greatly his defence is now pretty sound. Hopes is classed as a Medium pace bowler which is anywhere between 115km-130km I think. but he was picked because he just takes the pace off the ball enough to make 4's and 6's harder to hit. And yeah Damien Wright has done a great job for Tasmania this season and David Boon (selector) has put him in the team several times but got critisized because he is also Tasmanian. So there is a war between selectors at the moment. I dont expect to see Damian Wright become a Australian team member to McGrath retires.

Sinclair's gone and rightly should've, I have to agree there.

Tuffey should be retained for the meantime, he's obviously not in great form and is bleeding runs but I would keep him in the side for the moment.

Wilson should also be retained. Sure, 57 from six overs for no wicket makes for terrible reading but he's got a unique touch to him and two bad games shouldn't be the make or break of his future in the side.

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Yep tuffey should be retained and Sinclair should be shown the door...
Wilson should be retained in the team atleast till styris recovers from the Injury...
