Shades of old Southee at times here

Also if the boss played as many games as an Englishman he'd be a lock for most catches

I’m sure it was in the 29s at some point in the last year or so, but just crept back over 30 again.

EDIT: Yeah, during the second test against SL and first test vs Bangladesh last summer it dipped under 30 before going back up in the second Bangladesh test.
Finishing at 30-31 would still be pretty respectable for Southee given he must have averaged 45 or so until his 7 wicket haul in Bangalore. Though his 2012-14 peak promised more.

would be a massive underachievement from him tbh. he had more talent than boulty, but boulty is leaving him in his dust.

Getting pretty dark according to Cricinfo, and no floodlights. Breakthroughs needed quickly.

god a lot of these dismissals are terrible

just dead bat it you morons
Runs were important while 2 batsman / all-rounders were there. SL were probably going to score at a rate that needed NZ to bat again, and then every run scored meant more chance of SL having a lead too large for NZ to chase, meaning Kane would have needed to go more defensive with the field, so more chance of an edge / bat-pad not going to a fielder etc.

Different now that it is a batsman with only bowlers for company. Grim defense is all that is needed.

Yep, if they'd managed to go at 3s they'd have been all but safe by now.

The 'stop Dickwella getting a single' tactic, while practical, is missing a trick. Lulling him into a false sense of security and making him go after one is better than wasting time and deliveries trying to get out a lower order/tail end batsmen.

Would've bowled Southee for a while longer at Lakmal early on, he had a good spell going and troubling the right hander.
