p sara oval is the pacier deck yes? would be good to bring in wagner for somerville as well. i like somerville but he's probably more suited to SENA tests.

i'd be bringing in wagner anyway tbh. southee bowling 130 clicks with no swing isn't going to achieve much.

Traditionally bouncier, to a lesser degree than Pallekele, but SL groundsman can pretty much turn anything into a dustbowl if they so desire

good win from sl. nz need to just get better tbh. santner can go tho, and this will be tom lathams final summer in test cricket. 45s are his ceiling in test standard challenges.
Re: Latham - It won’t though.

A: They don’t drop people that easily. Especially a player that’s been in the team as long as he has.

B: His 45s will be seen as a success by our selectors. He’ll need to be consistently getting less than 10 or so, and look terrible doing so to get dropped.

lathams going to look a right spud when he's scoring 40, 10, 13, 12, 45, 2 all summer while rachin peels off nz a tons and greg hay is the best opener in the shield by a distance for the 35th year in a row.

Actually though, what’s up with Southee’s pace? I feel like he was late 130s not so long ago.

Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer for a subcontinent series win. Hopefully we'll draw the series.

Fair dues to SL though. The new Pakistan of world cricket, their last 3 test wins have been impressive.

yeah they're a good team. we were never 2-0ing this. they're very up and down and have some deficiencies but when they show up to play they play.

But he’s got the same last name as a former NZ cricketer?!?

And and and and he gets big hundreds against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in NZ!

And and and he got hundreds on debut in the UAE?!?

He’s going to have to be really bad to drop him. And I feel like he could do worse than Raval, but Raval would still get dropped first.

Like Southee, it’s great to be in the leadership group.

Rachin as an all rounder looking like a great option long term though. Especially if we can get some more tours in the SC.

Re: Somerville - would love to see him get more of a chance at home. His batting is probably the thing that will sway it for the selectors.

Santner surely done unless he goes god mode in first class at home? Like watching late Danny Veets. Limper than an 80 year old man with no little blue pills.

This is a bit sad. Really turned in a session and a bit yesterday. The opening partnership from DK and ThiraMainMan was the big difference.

The out call was for the catch. When they realised he missed with bat and glove but was struck on the body right in front of the stumps(he was sweeping on one knee) they decided to see if it might have been lbw - which I guess was a 'not out' call that had to be overturned but impact was umpires call
Seem to remember a similar thing happening with Chris Rogers in the 2013 Ashes. I know it would only come into play very rarely, but theoretically, could the umpire say 'I think he's hit that, but if he hasn't, then I think it's hit him in line etc' as in this case they could have thought it was plumb, but saved by a bit of bat/glove. But I guess an edge by definition changes the path of the ball, even if only slightly, so maybe you can't make a call on impact etc if you think the ball got hit

Edit: Well played SL

We missed quite a few chances yesterday. You could say unlucky, or just undisciplined. From then on, it looked as though everyone was tired and waiting for the first innings to repeat itself.
