Yeah definitely, McCullum's scored 58 in fours and sixes alone.

225/5 is much nice than 113/5 that's for sure!

without doubt the fact that mccullums battin at such a good rate means that hes gettin into some good form..
Yeah, he got some good scores against Namibia in the warmups too so he seems to be in good touch, good to see. Makes up for some of the top order...

This is a very good performance by Zimbabwe, despite New Zealand's apparent poor batting, is it rustiness or complacency? Despite that, they have to take their chances and they have, especially well done to Masakadza. The return of the rebels has lifted them it seems, although I doubt they will run this close.

Rustiness on the whole from what I've seen. Vincent looks completely clueless as an opener though, he's not in for a good series unless they do something about it.

The bowling since tea hasn't been the best.

That's being pretty kind to it.

Streak is solid, and Blessing Mawhire (SP) looked good with the new ball, pitched it up, good lines and some swing.

Unfortunately the 2 new Zimbabwaens fast bowlers bowl in the mid 120 kmh range; and have poor fitness. If you can negate the first 10-15 overs, then its all over.

Great recovery from NZ. There is something to say about a team that can pull themselves out of trouble even if it is against ZIM. I think that we should be treating this test series as the start of a new era. This should be the very beggining to get us back on track in test cricket.

In the second test Cumming should open with Hamish Marshall and James should be dropped. IMO he doesn't look up to it at test level at this stage. He needs a big second innings score if we bat again

Reminds me of what some say about the Warriors, they win 2 games and all of a sudden they have "turned the cornor"

Newsflash: 112/5, the top-order fails against bowlers who can't push it past the 130kmh mark. Messing around with openers, and accomadating middle-order batsman who have little form, selected for their reputation.

I think we should hold our judgement. I think you would have had to stay up all night to see with your own eyes, how awful the Zimbabwaen bowlers were.

Very average bowling attack.

Streak bowled a couple of gems here & there but after the 3 seamers there was absolutely nothing & once the new ball got older they had nothing else to fire.

NZ were lucky though because they could easily have been 280 all out if McCullum & Vettori hadn't have batted so well.

McCullum & Vettori on today's performance went a long way to justify why they were selected in the World Team.

The selectors should be picking James Marshall & Craig Cumming to open if you ask me.
If they should be dropping one player it should be Styris so that Vincent can slot back into the middle order.

Or I guess we'll hear Styris complaining about how he scored so many runs a year & a half a go so why should he be dropped?

Vettori for sure but not McCullum i dont see why he was selected in the World team test sqaud ahead of Sangakkara.

In a way i disagree mate, i think Papps is better than them both i reckon that Fleming should open the batting, NZ have enough good players to make up a solid middle order. What do you think about this XI:

1. Papps
2. Fleming
3. H.Marshall
4. Styris
5. Astle
6. Oram
7. McCullum
8. Vettori
9. Franklyn
10. Bond
11. Tuffey - i rather him over Martin

Plus: I dont see why your selectors have dropped Sinclair i know he failed againts the aussies but he is a better batsman than Vincent & co

anyway i'm eagerly anticipating to see Bond bowl... :D

gotta agree with that. Vettori is also developing into a classy batsman to compliment his bowling, soon he might give Freddy a run for best all rounder in the world ;)
