I'm looking:

Latham
Guptill
Williamson
Taylor
Baz
Corey
Watling
Sodhi
Milne
Southee
Boult

When McCullum retires we can just call up Neesh. Will probably need to groom some more top order batsmen as cover too.

i really really don't want latham keeping because he's pretty average and to work on his keeping he'd have to sacrifice time working on his batting.

the selectors decided he was an opening batsman, let him bat for now.

plus mccullum scoring ridiculously fast 30+ scores is one of our biggest strengths. his 70 odd or whatever it was in the semi-final made life so much easier for everyone that followed. SA were always under the pump despite the huge total because baz put things back to even stevens in two minutes.
I was about to PM you to come into the thread it needed some life. Good show.

Also Latham could injure himself Keepers break a million fingers.

why are we all dropping the bloke who stood up the most in world cup knock outs? we already have dubious batting depth, no need to bin Scott Styris mk II just because he's old. we did that once to both mk I and mk II then got sad and asked him to come back.

i get that he won't be around much longer but we may as well use such an underrated gun while we can to bed in the newbies
Meh (Henry McLeakin Wheeler all much of a muchness and are cannon fodder but they will suffice in meaningless matches)
what even is this? Henry and Wheeler are going to be guns*

*unless they get continually told to run in and bang it in halfway down

As a side note these NZ threads have become like a virtual pub. You come home - eat dinner and then log in for a bit of a gas and no one really minds what the topic is. Good stuff lads.

Why is it - Boult went for 5 an over and they went for 7.5 in England? They were cannon fodder. Wheeler seems to have an attitude issue and needs to respect the opposition more as well.

Hurricane I have to call you out on your sig while I'm here. Name me someone who actually rates the likes of Alecz Day on this forum. I can't even remember what his bowling action looks like. You've picked mostly poor beaten down unfashionable cricketers to throw your bullying bricks at.

David Warner, Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith are proper ****ing calls.

Wheeler was in his debut series and Matt Henry until that point had destroyed everyone put in front of him. He dealt with India and Pakistan. Pakistan batsmen might have been well...Pakistan batsmen but the UAE is where swing bowlers go to die and he was our best bowler.

I'm really hoping I haven't mixed up his UAE series with Milnes. I remember both bowling very well.

You've remembered correctly - Henry emerged from that UAE series as the form NZ bowler. Milne also did well, but Henry was the real stand out.

Meanwhile, this development ODI tour has been a huge success. Great to see so many guys who didn't really feature or missed the WC slot in and show their wares at this level. It's heartening and a nice change from the days when you would expect the side to really struggle if a few key players were out.

Jeez, imagine the damage a McCullum, Anderson, Neesham, Santner 5-8 could do in New Zealand. Carnage.
Yeah, that's the way I'm thinking. With Latham, Guptill & KW as the top 3, I think we'll generally get consistent, if not flamboyant starts i.e 90-100/1 or 2 after 20 overs.... then that very strong 5-8 can really putting the icing on the cake.

Flem's quite right about how crucial McCullum's semi knock against SA was, but he is very hit and miss as an opener, whereas I think Guppy and Latham (with the left/right think going) will be extremely solid.

Wheeler seems to have an attitude issue.
Wheeler was in his debut series.
He strikes me as one of those kids who have been too good for age group cricket and has developed a sneer towards the batsman, except now they are hitting him for six yet he is still running in expecting them to roll over for him like some 18 year old batsman from Horowhenua would who made the Wellington squad because he had connections.

Tim Southee has great respect for the game of Cricket and is a student of the game. Wheeler needs a reality check.

Lol. I really think you're reading too much into that Hurricane. I think Wheeler just naturally has that James "I look like I don't give a **** " Franklin body language about him, which gives that impression.

I doubt he'd last long in this current BC's environment if he genuinely had a bad attitude.

You're on to me. I havn't even read an interview by him. I am just going by body language. However I used to be able with great accuracy predict which players on call up from the minor leagues would made it big for the Toronto Blue Jays based 100% off body language. Those that looked earnest and wanted to learn went on to great things. Those that were chewing on a fat wad of gum and looking disinterested and also like they thought the major league hitter they were up against was **** invariably lasted between 4-5 games before being sent down.
You need to be respectful towards the opposition. Otherwise you want play your best.

So much this. And I am glad it is not just me that observed this. Yes perhaps he is nice to his team mates.

i dunno, indian summer david warner and kp kinda prove you wrong there.
No they don't

You can be like Dean Jones as a batsman. But you can't as a bowler. You need to be extremely intelligent, and a student of the game. Some batsman have such talent they can get by due to bravado and self belief. All those batsman you named would be even better if they pulled their heads in which is a scary thought.

A bowler needs to be determined - in fact with a fiery determination inside.
A batsman needs to have a swagger. And be confident.

lol, I used to actually think similarly about Stuart Clark until I realised that's just his face (that looks rather robotic) and there's not much he can do about it.
